And now they're $289 in 255/85/16s. They were $231 when I put them on my to-do list a year or so ago.

WWWD.... what would @wngrog do?

send it, I know that but sizing up new tires for the summer and wheeling season. I've got a few years and miles on these G003's but looking to get a fresh set on. I would really like a little taller set, but they don't exist in 16's.

Opt 1: same: 255/85r16 Yokohama G003's. I've been very happy with this tire. Sometimes it looks a little small on my cruiser.

Opt 2: 285/75r17 Yokohama G003's Same great tire, just taller and a little wider. I'm ok with both. My rig has flares which sometimes gives my rig that undersized tire look. Skinny track width as well. This option requires new rims which I haven't found any I quite like yet, but slightly wider and more tire options is a plus.

according to Yokohama, it's 285/75r17 is 34.1 tall and 11.1"wide.
255 is 33.2 so thats almost an 1" shorter and 1" narrower.

Discount tire has the 285/75r17 for $315 each
Discount tire has the 255/85r16 for $291 each

@wngrog how much actual difference is there between the 255's vs the 285/75r17 in size and road feel? Worth it to buy new rims, or not really, just run the 255's

Just bought five 255/85/16s at $284/ea from Discount. They could only find three in their entire system. Somehow found two more at a supplier in kalifornia. Went ahead and bought them before supply chain gets worse. Simple Tire and 4WP are around $330/ea now.

Love these tires.

Gotta be honest, I was a little hesitant taking them out in this past "snowstorm" but they performed very well, even going up our dog trainer's driveway.
I will probably always have these. Excellent all around and wearing nicely with proper rotations.

I have had similar experience in a couple snowy situations. Good grip for a MT. Although, last weekend in WV I did lock up and slide completely off of the road. It was mostly my fault, as it was very cold and the roads were unscraped. I carried too much speed through a flat turn and I think the top layer of snow started shifting on a layer of ice. In those conditions it's probably not super fair to blame the tire. However, I do wonder if a heavily siped tire would have stopped a bit sooner. Lucky for me, the ditch on the side of the road was not very deep and I sort of just cruised into a shallow snowdrift, stopped, then backed her up and off I went. I was lucky though, could've gone much worse. I say all of that to say this - I'm very impressed with these tires but their traction in deep-ish snow and other normal conditions can lead to overconfidence in truly hazardous weather. Drive accordingly and I think these things will probably take you anywhere you want to go.

Love these tires.
Remind me how wide those rims are? They really look great with the skinnies. I think I’ve only run them on 6” wide wheels and was worried they would be too narrow for the Smooth vintiques

The more I drive with these tires, the more I like them. I may have to look into some steelies in the future, they look great.

They eat up the thick clay mud we have down here in AR very well (as I would expect from a MT). I spend a lot of time on construction sites and have to make my way through mud pits left behind by excavators all the time, and I don't even think I've spun a tire yet; just easy throttle. We’ve had a few icy & sleet storms here too and it’s done very well in those. Very impressed

Love these tires still. Trying to decide to stay with 255's or bump up to 285/75r17's.

I've got 25,700 miles on them and I'm down to 8~10/32nds left which is 40~50% life span left. I usually sell tires around the 40% range so I've been looking for a size up, which comes with other problems, namely the rims/spacers.

My 255's measured out to 32.6" new, I don't have the actuals on the 285's...maybe grog has them.

About 10k miles in now. Gas mileage penalty is around 1 mpg from the 265 duratracs e-load before, after mileage correction. I rotate every 5k, including my spare in that mix. Wear seems pretty minimal, although that's just from my eye. I'll be surprised if I don't get 50-60k.

Just spent ~10 days in the Mojave. They seem to handle everything well, solid traction everywhere. Sand wasn't their strong point, but these 255s are narrow, and I wasn't airing down to sand pressures, and they performed fine.

They're certainly tough tires. My coworker had 3 punctures on his 10-ply Big O X/Ts (50% worn) while I had 0.

Overall they are performing well, more traction everywhere off-pavement, and reliable winter grip as well. I will likely buy them again.

Do regular hills under torrential rain apart from the mud in the farm and it never has let me down so far, for sand I deflate down to 22psi and it works out real good.
