so North Portal at 9am and La Cueva turn off at 10-10:30? we'll find some side roads from there.

We're thinking of going - two quick questions - where is 'North Portal?' and I have zero experience driving off-road in snow conditions - is this a run for a newbie to this type of driving?

Paul

North Portal is the south east corner of 528 and 550 at the gas station.

i don't know how deep the snow is up there. if we keep you toward the back of the pack, you should be fine. each vehicle packs the snow and the end trucks have an easier time of it. i believe it won't be as deep as when we've gone later in the season. you should be fine. if stock trucks are having a real tough time, we can turn around and find an easier road. we do that many times.
bring a shovel among the normal gear too.

Perfect opportunity to get some good experience.

P.S. I still don't know if I'm in or not - some other variables to sort out tonight...

I hope I didn't get excommunicated from snow runs because of the tree run. If I am still welcome I will be there :D

and when did we get so many smilies?

I think we need to take a vote. :hillbilly:

... and when did we get so many smilies?

They have always been there under the "more" button. Woody has been editing the list and making more available at one time. For awhile our little green man was MIA.

I like the wrench :wrench: and the clap is neat too

I need to quit doing the quick replies to get exposed to Mud's intricate details :D

Are there any folks out there that will need a loner CB radio?

firemedic - definitely go on a snow run. That was my first run with the club about 3 years ago and the whole family had a blast. There's typically nothing wild to worry about, just getting stuck in some deep snow. Be careful not to get too close to the side of the road. That seems the be the problem most people have. I've done it and seen many other people with better equipped trucks than mine get stuck. The snow's a lot deeper in the ditch on the side of the road. Do like Shawn says and stay near the back of the pack to let the big boys pack it down for you.

Well, for those of us who couldn't make it - how was it?

Will all the trucks be coming home this evening, or wil be there be recovery efforts needed?

I hope everyone had a blast - there should have been some good snow out there. I'm sorry I missed it!

No recovery efforts needed. Didn't spend too much time in the snow, but it was certainly deep and a challenge where we did go. Shawn and Isaac spent some time educating me on how to put holes in soda cans at 20-30 feet. Sometimes many holes at one time. :grinpimp:

We had four trucks. Shawn, me, Issac, and Paul. I really like my chains.

Here's a pretty mediocre photo of the action in the Jemez. I was pretty busy driving so I didn't shoot a lot of pix. I had a great time. Can't wait to run again.

Looks like it was a beautiful day! Thanks for the update, guys.

the snow was like sand/sugar, but not too deep. it would have been a perfect run for more stock vehicles. it didn't pack down, and spinning tires half refilled the tracks, but being only up to mid tire, it was passable even when one slipped toward the side ditch. we went up the road that a few years back, Tobascofish was buried to the frame, Jon was stuck and Evan's rig couldn't winch the Fish tank out for a while (just pulled himself forward).
i had a good time. i think we redeemed ourselves from the tree run.
