What stay home and watch tv when you could be out wheeling.

Where: Meeting at the Ba'Ja gas station on highway 87 > west of the Verde river crossing/across the highway from the Ft. MCDowell casino.

When: Jan 1st, 2019> Meeting at 7:45am and departure at 8:00am please allow enough time to get there ~

What: Back road to Young

Plan on a long day but scenic, we may stop in Young for a bite but plan on getting home after dark.

I am in.

...we may stop in Young for a bite...

The Antlers recently closed until a new owner can be found. The Bruzzi Vineyard serves some killer pizza and salads, but they are normally only open Friday thru Sunday. I don't know of any other food options. Maybe the Cherry Creek lodge? I'd try to get the Forest Service barracks open for a cookout or potluck, but not possible during the government shutdown.

What's the return route? Overland, or via Payson or Globe?

Return route , depending on road conditions will be payson. We can always head back south to globe.

If there is no restaurant option in Young then we will shoot for something else. Thanks for the intel on the Antlers.

Kruiser Kat and I are also in for this run. But, as we live up north (Dewey-Humboldt) after reaching Young we will proceed home via a different route rather than return to the valley.

Keep an eye out for us we will be up near Payson and will be returning home through young. Departing east of Payson at about 11. There is one place in young to eat that is pretty good. We will be planning to have lunch there! Have a safe trip!

O shoot just saw your message about the restaurant In young that’s sad! Thanks for the heads up! We will make sure to have food for lunch.

Are you going up the five twelve road from the lake? I am in Gilbert and go up to globe and take the turn for the lake to head up to Young. Going to be really muddy watch those roads that clay gets really slippery slick when wet. If you want to have some really muddy fun take the forest road up to the satellite dish. Best view in the valley.

Might want to check for closures. My parents are in Tonto Basin sampling the RV village life and just informed me the road from Tonto Basin to Payson is closed. FWIW.

Got 4 plus inches of snow up north in Dewey-Humboldt, with lows temp tonight 15 degrees. Plenty of snow (and slippery ice) to keep us occupied, Kruiser Kat and I are going to pass on the New Year's trail run to Young.

P.S. Kruiser Kat already assisted in one vehicle recovery this evening!

 on your recovery efforts

I am out. Not feeling that great (no, I was in bed at 12:01 and not a single drink), think I am coming down with a cold.

Have fun and be safe.

*cough [Bottle flu]

Hate to hear that. Looks like you had an awesome run yesterday, at least.

Get better.

I'm out too . Woke with a fever yesterday. Still not well. Looks like it's going around. Have fun guys

I was up on the Young rd yesterday getting my last load of firewood for the season. I'd expect 2+ feet up on top by this morning. Last picture is hwy 260/Young rd
