I was just very disappointed that what many people are led to believe are actual toyota wipers, complete with toyota logos, aren't the original parts and don't perform as well. Personally I think it is pretty lame on toyota's part to allow it.. though I guess it is a lot quicker and more profitable to install a new cheap (figuratively too) blade than put new inserts into the oem blades.

But for those of us OCD enough to pour over these details.. the info is on this board.

While we are on the subject of windshields and wipers.. does anyone else have a small "dead zone" to the bottom left of the windshield that the sprayer doesn't seem to reach? I'm wondering if this is an oversight on the design or I need to see about aiming my nozzles better.
Not sure it's worth a whole new thread.

... Basically, there are model specific designs in the arm...

You are correct. In a previous life, long ,long ago, I worked for a company that sold specialised software to Ford, GM, etc. We hired one of their guys after some time and his job whilst at Jaguar was to design wipers. Amazing what goes into these designs. I doubt aftermarket thinks about it in as much detail.

The Sightline Toyota's at my dealer have the Toyota ellipses logo where the wiper arm clips to the blade. The OEMs have no logo.

This makes it confusing and totally ridiculous....especially when you search for "Genuine Toyota OEM wiper blades" and get sent here....

“The fit, function and quality of a genuine toyota part”.... debatable.. either way, if you read in to that description it doesn’t mean it’s a genuine toyota part. Pathetic that we need to be that specific about reading product descriptions. Especially with toyota involved.

FWIW, I ended up going back to OEM because the Bosch Icons I bought would lift at highway speeds while in use. They'd lift at the top of the wiper arc.

I suppose YMMV, some people have success with the Bosch Icons. Perhaps aerodynamic differences between years.

When you go to the dealer there are 2 types of blades. Inserts and the complete assembly. Dealers know the assembly are trash as they are made by a US MFG. The inserts are JDM and are the original blades. Dealers won't tell you the difference but the price indicates the major difference.

Ask for the inserts if you buy OE.

OEM inserts, 100%.

I still remember the quality of the 90915-20004 OEM oil filters before Toyota cheapened out the US markets with adequate but poorer quality replacements. May be US owners do not wish to pay for quality replacement parts? May be Corporate HQ is applying every trick in the book for maximizing profits?

As I understand, the sightline wipers sold at toyota dealers are also made by Denso. Just not refillable.

who has the part #'s for the complete, true OEM wiper blade assemblies? I need to order to replace the junk that came on my LC and don't want to get suckered on Sightline or other.

Here's a very informative thread on this topic, with part numbers:

This is what I came up with after too much time spent researching:
Left (driver) side: 85222-42110, length is 600mm, right on the box.
Rights (passenger) side: 85222-53071, length is 550mm, right on the box.

I have a pair of each of these waiting in my garage for spring weather. I am running Bosch winter blades now, not impressed.

My nephew is a mechanical engineer and now works for a company in the Maryland region, and all they do is design and manufacture washer nozzles, for several brands (BMW, GM, many others, but not Toyota). I was shocked at the amount of engineering and testing that goes into something that seems so trivial. Last time I was visiting he showed me a design they were working on for Cadillac that squirts fluid at very high pressure on the rear camera, then shoots a puff of air to eliminate spots.

I can confirm those numbers fit.

if you want to do the rear while you are at it: 85242-42030 for the whole blade, 85214-42040 for the insert.

thanks for the #'s guys....I plan on ordering tomorrow from my dealer and now i know exactly what to look for.

Ordered from ToyotaPartsDeal. Possibly could have found them a little cheaper but I decided to just order all 3 full blades (L, R, Rear) and be done with it.

Does this include the rubber wiper pieces??
Yes, those numbers are for the whole blade/insert assembly for each position. After this (or if you still have actual original blades) all you'd need is the refills which are posted earlier in this thread.

Exactly. The truck is 10 years old now. I'm replacing all 3 full assemblies (blade + rubber insert) and will plan to just replace inserts going forward.

I'm thinking that would be about yearly but the funny thing is that wiper blades seem to be counter-intuitive. I'd bet that in a rainy place like Seattle wipers might last longer than in a dry place like Phoenix. Not sure but I'd hazard a guess that the rubber wipers being wet is better than having them dry out. Our wipers in Arizona don't get used often.....when you turn them on for the first time in 7 months they squeal in pain. lol

So we've had a record amount of rain around here and the blades were streaking, squeaking and skipping something awful. I had the generic "OE" blades on the LC and so I ordered the full, real OEM assemblies. They came in and I put them on and WOW are they great. Absolutely DEAD quiet. They wipe perfect without a peep even in a light mist with very little water on the windshield. They also have a more aerodynamic shape and I think they create less wind noise. Most of those aftermarket ones have a universal attachment that makes it sit up high on the windshield. They just look awkward. These are sexy!

I guess Im anal about wipers. They are distracting and just want them to wipe the least amount possible. I also disconnected the Autowiper box because that was annoying to me. I prefer normal intermittent.

Another vote for for the real OEM blades, NOT the generic ones with the Toyota logo on them. Never thought I could get so excited about windshield wipers!

In the Tahoe area where I’m at we get rain, snow and ice in the winters. I’ve used Bosch and Rain-X and feel that the Toyota arms and replaceable blades are the best. Quiet, smooth, no chatter and clear the glass well all the time... def better than the others.

At Toyota right now.
Asked parts guy for Toyota blades and refills.
He responded, "Do you want the sightlines, or the actual original OEMs?"
So ya... Definitely not the same thing, and definitely confusing online.

He's charging me $22 per OEM front blade and $7 per OEM front refill.

Thank you ALL for your work on this subject... I switched out the original stock blades for ICONS and they chattered so bad I had to Rain X my windshield and use Orange Rain X windshield wiper cleaner to keep blades somewhat smooth to the windshield...
I'm ordering the good OEM's and staying with them...

Thanks again,

Jeff
