Mine had large screws the last time I had the windshield replaced, the holes were too large for FORD rivets. What I did was use 4mm SS rivnuts on the windshield frame and low profile machine screws to secure the trim. I actually like this solution better then the OEM rivet, next time I need to replace the windshield all I have to do is unscrew the trim, don't have to worry about accidentally drilling the rivet hole too large.

Smart man!

I was just thinking of applying the same method and thought I'd do a quick search on here to see if anyone has gone this route.

I developed a small leak at the top left corner, looks like the urethane is failing. While inspecting I found that one of the previous owners must have had the glass out and the installer used rather large screws in place of rivets. They were kind enough to run some butyl while setting the screws so it has done a good job of sealing and protecting.

I used a lot of rivnuts on the lx before to replace the oem plastic clips on the interior which never seem to secure anything very well.
Figured a rivnut would do very well in place of the rivets since the paint can be preserved and the trim can be removed/installed without compromising the fasteners. Even if a rivnut fails I've successfully drilled out without enlarging the existing hole.

So I just had Safelite install a new aftermarket windshield. I originally requested an OEM and 3 days before install Safelite notified me that OEM was no longer available.

I removed the windshield myself and mitigated all of the rust on the vehicle. I ordered all new OEM moldings, dams, and rivets (including oversized).

Safelite showed up and did a good job on placing the dams to the windshield and installation of windshield minus the moldings with rivets.

7 of the 8 holes would not hold the OEM size rivets (90269-04053). I used a #11 drill to open the 7 holes up so the oversized Toyota plastic coated rivets (90269-05034) fit perfectly. I used some nippers to trim the rivet heads so they would fit in the molding. Done.

What year and make truck do you have? Windshield from Lexus was available in 1 day for my non-nightview 07 LX.

@mr470 The glass is stamped Lexus. Made by AGC Automotive in Indonesia.
