After some discussion with fellow owners of imports from different forums there has been a desire for:
--ONE place to register ourselves.
--a place to get accurate up-to-date information about the battle.
--a place to impliment a template letter to send off to the MP,MLA.
--a place where you can find info on who to direct your letters to.

i have contacted a web server and a web person to create this site, all is progressing smoothly. at this time i am gathering information to transfer there. there will be the gerneral updates that will be open to the public as well as a mandate of what we hope to accomplish.

we are looking at a committee to run this site, gather information, glean what we can and to post it up for all to have the same goals and information.
we are hoping to have this up in one weeks time but since everyone has real jobs it might take longer (seriously hope not).

i just thought you might like an update.

Previa shuggested Imported Vehicle Owners Association of Canada and it sounds fine to me. this site will be seperate from my other sites.

stay tuned and if you have any suggestions of what you would like to see on the site you can either post them on this thread or send them to me direct to:
wayne@crushersrule.com

cheers

sounds great to me,

i suggest that the info be easily located and compiled, but also only admins can add to it, that way there will be no false info posted, also each piece of info should have the credible source showing where we got it from.

i suggest that in the forums there be a "rumor has it" thread where the admins move irrelevant he said she said posts to keep threads clean and junk free, thus there wont be pages upon pages of garbage, making it easier to discuss the true info and state at hand.

i suggest we get seperate lists of people who support us. have all the MLA's, MP's, Gov't officals, police, inspectors, fire, general public, and of course, us. have contact info available if needed but not for everyone to veiw, this way people wont be able to personally contact people like Glenn Taylor and get into arguements with them which will make them not want to help our cause even though they may be sympathetic and willing to help....

i like the name of the Association, although im not a imported car owner, i do plan to be this year but im not yet, part of me voicing myself is because i want to own a skyline in particular and dont want the laws to change, as it would ruin my dreams if i didnt get it but also would ruin dreams of other fellow Canadians. so perhaps the website domain name can be a little more open to All people supporting this movement.

i personally work 7days a week but i have many free hours in the morning and at night which i am willing to devote to this cause, i would love to share what i have gathered so far, and work with people in a cohesive way to end this issue in its infancy.

consider me a board:cheers:

Usually the first Name thought of is the best ..so
"Imported Vehicle Owners Association of Canada"
Is GREAT...
Sounds like it covers all imported vehicles not just cruisers which I think is what we want..
And thank you Wayne for providing the place to Register ourselves and continue with our battle..
Appreciated by many here I'm sure..
Thanks again.

first off, i want to say it was Previa that came up with the name. when i visited the CCMVT site i felt they are our biggest threat so we will set up the site similar to theirs.

i like the idea of a rumours section to dump everythign into till we can prove or disprove a rumour.

Mat and Chris, can i still call on you to translate into french many many pages of text?

cheers for now

As far as names go, i like the association name ivoac.ca but i also think we should have something that is easy to remember as well like:
importfreely.ca or
freeimports.ca

The reason I thought of this is because i was going to get some sort of vinyl decaling done for my cruiser so that other right hand drivers out there who aren't necessarily in the forums, etc will be aware of the issue..

Daryl

you make a good point Daryl...
run with it...

I agree Daryle and Wayne. The web address needs to be something that is easy for people to remember. And stickers are a great way to advertise. The Aussie clubs and associations make good use of decals to inform folks about their clubs and issues. Usually guys and gals are scrambling to get one on their vehicle. I wonder what would be the price to get a bunch made. I would be willing to pay for one to put on my truck but it has to fit on the top rear window on the big barn door. Cheers, John

As far as the decals are concerned, its got to be something that will catch the eye of other RHD owners out there who arent as involved in the groups, forums, etc, etc.. The key is that its got to be verbose enough to get the point across, yet brief enough not to take up too much space.. i.e.

"Stop the pending ban on import vehicles.. importfreely.ca" (ban is the wrong word)
"Import vehicles are not the hazzard the government says they are"..

Something like that..

As far as domains go, I had some other ideas.. 15years.ca? keepit15years.ca? Something like that? Come on all you guys with bigger brains than me, help a guy out! :)

Daryl

i liked importfreely.ca

i suggest that we have a statistics page, similar to the report TC had submited, but complete, and showing ALL info, have stats to compare against stats, rather than just present one side of it.

also, we need to get people who dont own imports, and have no intention of owning imports, ive been searching advocasy groups trying to find some that would be sympathetic to our cause and get some advice from people who have been doing it longer...

I like your suggested com Shadao but I think we need to be clear on what we what we will accept. Importfreely.ca may give the impression that we want to import any vehicle without limitations. While, 15years.ca shows we want the status quo. Personally, I wouldn't mind being able to import the vehicles I want regardless of US/Canada integration. Realistically, I do not think there is any way in the near future to expect that and it may give our audience that impression. I work in the area of global education and political advocacy with 100,000s of Canadians signing on to our campaigns every year. They are big political issues and take politicians years to make any move on them. So, if we want to have the auto market opened up, then we need a very long term campaign and a long time-line. We don't have that Luxury right now (pardon the pun Wayne). The com 15years.ca will perk people's attention enough to wonder what it is about and maybe even start a discussion. Also, I do think we can achieve success in a short time frame. Politicians are always more open to maintaining the status quo. On a decal, the 15years.ca should be in the largest type font. After all, this is what we want people to check-out. The short secondary message explaining it should be in a much smaller font - mainly for people who see the decal in a parking lot type situation. Cheers, John

we want to appeal to ANYONE that ownes an imported 15-year old unit NOT imported by the original manufacturers...
there is 25,500 units imported between 2000-2004, these are the people we want on board with us and of course from 2004-2007 owners as well...
BMW,Benz,Jag Toyota, Nissan etc etc LHD or RHD does not matter..
cheers

Once the particulars get sorted, someone please make a printable info sheet that can be put on ALL rhd drive vehicles we see.

I will put one on every RHD I see in my area. If everyone does that it can help bring the traffic to the site. I pass them out for Smithers.

even though this is an issue to owners and future owners of RHD and imported vehicles, the general public needs to be informed as well, just getting the message out to owners wont be enough.... window flyers are a great idea.

while what we are up against will only affect us, TC reasoning behind it should affect ALL canadians, highly maintained imported vehicles are good for our roads, the few that have come through that are unsafe are just that, and as a result ALL imported vehicles have come underfire.... BUT if TC wants to remove unsafe older vehicles, they also must attack EVERY SINGLE older domestic vehicle as well, becuase light bulbs will click on for ANYONE with common sense that if these imported vehicles which have been well maintained(because of the stringent regs in japan) are a danger to our roads, then what of the MILLIONS of older domestic vehicles that are on our roads?

if TC says are roads are unsafe because of these vehicles, then they also must say the same thing about domestic vehicles, but first and foremost they wanna prevent anymore unsafe vehicles from entering canada, and i dont blame them... so what do we do....

i suggest that along with all the info and stuff that will be on this website, i think it is imperitive that we find solutions to there issues.... such solutions could be as simple as gov't certified importers that would be held accountable if an unsafe vehicle made it in;they could lose there lisence to import or have a recall on all vehicles imported by them to be re-inspected by a impartial inspector to ensure that no other unsafe vehicles had been passed and bill the importer for it, and properly trained inspectors(inspectors all across canada need to be re-trained anyways) that can actually identify what is wrong, and what it will take to repair if its repairable. or having an imported vehicle tax to help offset the lost revenues from the money going over seas. politicians love NEW TAXES

to them changing the laws is the easy way out, finding real solutions to the problem is much harder for a politician. but will be easier for us because we will have panic set in on how and what to do....

You metion PANIC..
I would try not to panic at this point..
We are just getting this thing going..Granted the government has been at this issue for longer than we have been getting organized..
I just hope we are not too little too late..

Funny thing, thinking back I raised some of these questions back in the summer.
A few made comment..That was as far as it went..
Lets hope this goes a lot farther..

i said panic, ya refering to what some importers have been doing, which instilling buyer panic, because of the current state of affairs, as a result from buyer panic, some unsafe vehicles have been purchased and brought over.... now we are facing the results of unsafe vehicles that have been brought over. to prevent that from continuing to happen we need more strict regs for older vehicles, but that should apply to ALL older vehicles not just imported vehicles....

to prevent that from continuing to happen we need more strict regs for older vehicles, but that should apply to ALL older vehicles not just imported vehicles....

It is not an issue that is caused by the regs not being strict. The issue has been created by regs which are not coherent and by inspectors who haven't been doing their job properly.

As I have said before, over 20 years of political advocacy experience has shown me it is always easier to get the politicians to keep the status quo than to change it. Don't any one panic; just get yourself informed, inform others and start knocking on political doors with the rest of us. John

PS: I saw 3 RHD LCs this morning within 2 blocks of each other. Time to start cruising the parking lots and looking for the RHDs.
