schmezel me! after 16 spreadsheet calculations i decided the upside down bezel would allow more air flow to cool my "big" small block. Good Excuse?

Never, if you want to maintain your credibility as a Land Cruiser owner.

will sideways deflect more bugs!
per my intitial post all ive done to it so far is wiring, lights, mirrors, built running boards, built front bumper and welded in bar for harnesses. other than that i know nothing about the 40 so i appreciate all tips for keeping it real and helping establish my cred.
gonna try a 4* shim, adjust center pivot/box and rebush the shackles today to see if it helps the steering. report to follow
think ill name it "The Groundpig"

I think someone mentioned it already, but it's worth repeating: Worn knuckle bearings can play hell with steering.

Sure is a clean rig. What do you know about its history?

I also checked out Groundhog Construction Services - interesting and unique business you have there.

Credibility? Meh :meh: The guy can do 75mph in his 40. His credibility is beyond shot since he'll be driving in the fast lane unlike other 40s.

Welcome Troy! :D

BTW Thanx to all for the gracious welcomes and eagerness to help. Im looking into the requirements for joining as it would be nice to have someone rescue me for a change. Wheeling and building is fun but we all gotta make the cheddar! Please look me up @ Groundhog Construction Services I'm always here to help someone make a business connection or get one and will need to be taking on some employees next month. If you know of anyone with skills/no skills we can teach, they just have to be willing to bust a** for me.

I believe Ali means you can run faster because of the SBC... the rest of us are on straight six tractor motors and will anchor the group.

Meh. The gauge here is if we can keep up to a 1FZFE. I think he will be far off in the distance with the 80s lagging way behind.

Jon, last time I saw your 40 on the hiway, you caught me pretty quick on the uphill climb after Durango. I had the cruise control set at 80. Wait a minute, I dropped to 70 :meh: Still pretty quick for half an 80.

No mention was made of my 40 ... and I'm running one of those tractor engines Guy was speaking to. In general, I can keep up with an 80 ... as long as both of us are empty. And I can do 70-75mph all day.

Welcome!!!!

Very nice 40. I have a 4" lift with mildly extended shackles as yourself and needed 6* shims to get mine where it needed to be. try to get some measurements before taking the time to install. I just used my smartphone with a protractor application. Not exact, but close enough to be within a degree or so and it drives beautifully now. I recommend checking the rear drive shaft angle too, as I needed 4* to get the rear axle parallel with the transfer case and eliminate some vibrations I got at speed. Look forward to meeting you out on the trail. Im a bit of a newbie myself as I just got mine last september.

Is the tool referenced a shimming tool? i hope to have some caster wedges and shackle bushings in this weekend and will report back on the results. i will entertain the knuckle tool if this doesnt help and need to do a knuckle service. the knuckles arnet leaking gear oil but you can see a little grease on them.

UPDATE:
Just got the Groundpig back from my friend Warren @ McBride's Spring Shop. Shimmed 4* and toed .25 in with new shackle/spring bushings. Dead strait on I-40 rain grooves going70mph. No more darting and has a little counter pressure when steering into turns and snaps back strait like right now. Warren and Paul did an awesome job! Wheel/knuckle bearings in good shape. Just need to do rear bushings and snug steering play in the box. Thanx for all the help and suggestions. Anybody need anything hit me up.

I saw it at McBrides today. Looks good, except that bezel problem:D
