Howdy, I am a chronic lurker who has mostly hung out in the Iron Pig Preservation Society and 80 Series area. I just picked me up a 1982 FJ40 in John Deere Green and wanted to share some picks. My first vehicle was a 1981 FJ40 and I only sold it when I had my second daughter because I was freaking out about money at the time. I have regretted it since I did it and bought the '82 to fill the void.

Thats a good looking rig!

Thanks for the kind comments. I am pretty excited to have a 40 again.

77cruiser77, in the future I plan to put in a Vintage Air A/C unit (cause it gets freaking hot here in the summer), add an OME lift and 33's, add a winch compatible front bumper and an 8274, roof rack, fix all the rust issues hidden under the paint, add a high clearance back bumper and add a snorkel (and not just cause the wife hates the look of them).

All that is going to have to wait a little while since I am lucky I was able to get approval for the purchase. But I have a 40 and am thrilled with that.

I saw that 40 on ebay a few weeks back. Is that were you got it at? Looked pretty nice from the pics, but it didn't seem to be bringing the money most of the 40's of that era normally do even in this soft market. Definitely a nice ride. How much $ did you pay?

Toomanytoyzz, that is the one. Bought it off ebay. I am afraid to say how much I bought it for. I am not unfamiliar with FJ40 pricing and understand that I probably paid too much, but am happy to have it and plan to do the vehicle justice by fixing it up and using it for what it was built for.

You paid what you WANTED to pay for it. Don't worry what the next guy says you SHOULD have payed for it. :flipoff2: Your name's on the title now.

Nice truck.

OT - is there still a big poultry farm in Lehi? 30 years ago when I lived in Provo, we used to drive to Lehi to buy thin-shelled eggs rejected by Safeway for 75 cents a flat.

The color is grass green, according to Mr. Toyoda. please do not denigrate that nice rig by calling it by the name of a tractor! :crybaby:

1911,

Lehi used to be pretty rural but no longer. It was one of the last places with open farmland so it became a target for new home building and is quite different from what it used to be. There is still farmland to the west, but a lot of the open space has now turned into planned communities.

Texx,

Color name change coming in order to not offend...

In the next week or two, I am planning on putting an OEM carb back on and re-smogging the vehicle. I am taking most parts from a donor 2F that is in my '76 FJ55. I hope I have everything needed to convert from the Weber back to OEM. Only thing that I think that I may need is a Torque rod bracket, but that is just a guess on my part from sifting through parts catalogs and looking at the pictures.

I haven't done a search yet to see if anyone has a thread documenting the process, so I will look around this weekend for information before posting up the question. Don't want to take flack for not using the "Search" function first :D.

Great truck

I also have a John Deere Green 1983 FJ40 LX - at the moment its in a container on a ship on the Indian Ocean somewhere on its way from Aussie to South Africa.

Once it arrives I'm going to tear it down and do a complete rebuild the same as I did on my present Rustic Green 1979 FJ40 (that used to be a BJ40)

I checked out the truck in person while it was on ebay and just had to walk away for the amount of money he was askin. Myself and a cruiser buddy of mine met and talked with him on different stuff he was selling and found him to very shady. He claims to be a aqualu dealer and rino lining shop. Do you have the truck? was it shipped to you?
