I've seen a few in the 10-12k range. All in very good condition with very little rust and in the 130-150k km range. Even though the one you are looking at is advertised as having 100k km, it is possible that it has been rolled back. Do a search on this forum and you will find lots of info on rollbacks and how to spot them. For the price that bonsai is asking I would expect a decent warrenty and a near mint condition truck. And that's not even including the pst and gst.

There is a HZJ73 in my local area that is in decent shape for sale. Has the auto and lockers. It's a decent looking vehicle and it would go in the 10-11k range I think. It does have a couple specks of rust. One spot in the rocker. But a good deal for vehicle with a good engine.

Honestly I like the 3B range of engines, which the 13b-t is in, But if I went with a 70 series I would want the 1HZ engine. All the new parts are easy to get.

PM if you need the owners name of the HZJ73.

Ok now I do not mean to poke at anyone but I just searched the masterJDM list in the 24volt threads and well the ones that had BJ74 on them were around the same price as the one that I'm looking at. What I did find was another 5spd BJ74 here on the Island now if I have time I may go have a look.

Brown Bear thanks for the info. I have PM you though I have been able to get my wife on side with the BJ, and she is not as impressed with the HZJ's so we will have to see.

The HZJ is just the engine. You can get it in the same body type as the BJ74. It's just a bigger engine that is still in production. Your wife would not know the difference. Same look.

Here's an example of a HZJ73

Luxury Imports - Calgary, Alberta

Also a decent company to deal with. Very few if any complaints on here about Wayne.

That's just not very realistic. $12K for a clean, locked, 5 speed BJ74...? You'll be looking for a Loooooonnnng time for one of those.

There are some affordable ones out there, but they have skeletons...

That's too much. I wouldn't pay over 12K unless it was in exellent condition with NO rust and had lockers. You can find a decent BJ74 in the 10K range if you are patient.

I said I wouldn't pay over 12K UNLESS it had lockers etc. etc. I've bought 2 BJ74's and I am helping a buddy to find one at the moment. I think I have a pretty good idea of what they are worth.

I was not trying to say that you didn't know what landcruisers are worth. It's just with my limited expirience and the fact that there are very few of them up here, I looked around the internet. Well prices don't seem to be that low, and my work is so that I can't just take time off right now to go get a cruiser from out east.

When you buy from a reputable importer there's about $2K+ worth of inspections and service that are included in the price. New tires, new Optima batteries, undercoating and rustproofing, compression tested, injectors serviced, all systems cleaned and flushed and refilled with synthetic fluids, new filters, interior and engine compartment detailed, and all broken parts replaced. You won't find that for $12K... 14K to 16k is reasonable for a top of the line used 73-4 with winch, or locking diff. Turn the key, ready to go anywhere, no additional service required.

This method IMOP is highly recommended. You won't buy a piece of junk.

IMOP there is two ways to buy a cruiser. Buy one cheaper from anyone who brings it in. But you need more experience to not get taken on the purchase. So there is no point rushing in to the purchase. I would suggest not buying right away until you know what to look for if you take this method.

Or Buy from the major importers who offer these extensive pre purchase service jobs and give a bit of warranty and guarantees.

Out back, Mustang and Luxury should fit that criteria.

Pay more, but get a good truck. Or buy cheaper and know what your looking at so you can right it.

Well I have no problem buying and paying a bit more if the cruiser is in good shape, and all the problems have been looked at.

Now I do realise that I am talking to the owner/sales man but what has been done is fluids(all oils, cooling system flush), filters, clutch and new tires. I have been talking to some people about what to look for and where, I am going to have an second opinion on the cruiser by another shop as well. I called and talked with Rod at Raddcruisers yesterday and he also gave me a whole lot of advice on what to look for.

I have not put any money down yet, and if there is anything that you guys can think of for me to look at that you missed on your cruiser when you bought it

Small world, I spoke with the owner of the company you are looking to purchase from, he was looking for a clutch kit for a 13BT for one of the three BJ74s he is selling.

Sounds like they are buying high grade rigs and selling for a reasonable dollar with all the service they offer.

So glad to see someone on the island selling so many cruisers, all the more for us to work on.

Well I went down and had a look at the BJ74 Friday, it looks clean no corotion to speek of. It drives nice, though I can't say the same for me trying to get used to the RHD.

There was two things though the light for the glow plug is not coming on, and the other is the starter stuck in the crank position after I stalled the cruiser.

They are keeping it so that they can sort out these issues before I can take it.

You do not have glow plugs. You have a glow screen and it does not turn on until well below zero. Look into doing a glow screen over ride. It takes a couple of hours to do and you truck will start really well.

Get them to do the starter itis a real painto take inand out.

Good luck. The BJ74 is a great truck.

if it's not very cold the glow plug light may only blink. It has a glow screen not glow plugs. If it starts clean and without a lot of smoke it is heating sufficiently.

Does he have a 70 series with a 1hz you can drive?

If you don't want a RHD, you can find decent Canadian LHD diesel cruisers. They do exist. Just not many clean 70 series LHD's. But you can find some 60 series diesels in decent shape. They are a lot cheaper than a JDM.

I have a Canadian 60(bj60) and a USA fj80 gasser, which I hope to convert to diesel. Cause my wife will not have a rhd...

Greg_b has a sweet looking Canadian 42 series diesel for sale. You can see it on the gandscruiserparts.com site.

Urbancarrot - thanks I'll have to look into doing the glow screen over ride, is this something that I can do or does it need special tools for this? Now there was no problem with it starting, not to much smoke, the chock was needed. Wonce it warm up it ran great. As for the starter they were going to take it out and have a look at the contacts and the whole thing to make sure everything is ok.

brownbear - Its not that I didn't like my first ever drive in a RHD, its that I felt like I was relearning how to drive. More than once I turned on the window wipers when trying to signal. As for the shifting well that took a lot of thought, so that I would not punch the door. My wife didn't have any trouble in the LH seat, but when she saw some of the problems I was having she declined to try driving it right now.

He does not have any of the 70's with the 1hz yet but he may in the future.

As for the Cruiser it looks better than our 2002 Mazda, the cruiser actualy has less km on it. It as not been respraied, the under coating is the same colour as the body. So they figured that they would be done all the inspection and other little things with in the next week or so.
