I have been reading this site for a few months now and I really impressed with all the knowledge here. I picked up an '85 FJ60 Last weekend for $1500 with 180K on it. Cleanest motor I have seen in a long time! Well, actually 2 of them, came with a parts Cruiser as well. I have a couple questions, the tranny has bearing noise in 4th gear and the power steering leaks. Power steering is no issue, but the tranny is. The parts car is an June '84 and my driver is a May of '85. I think if I change out the tranny in the parts car it will bolt in as long as I transfer the drivelines as well. Also after some time I would like to bolt in an H55F, which would use the '85 drive shafts right?

For those who like some cruiser porn, the brown is the driver, the white is parts.

Thanks,

Congrats on the find. It's always good to get a "twofer". Inevitably, somewhere down the road, it'll come in handy:D

Nice rig!

It only get's worse:lol::beer:

Congrats and welcome to mud

Welcome take all free info. as just that. MIke

Its not the engine compartment that is clean, what is the condition of the frame near the wheel wells and the wheel wells them selves? That is where the costly problems usally arise. BTW, if its rust free or little rust and its a local truck, your luucky. :)

Rusty,

So the engine compartment is not very clean, but when the valve cover came off, you could eat off of it. Sorry no pics of that.

HaryV,

As for rust, I had to take the guys word and drove 4 hours one way to take a chance and it paid off big!!!! Slight surface rust on the frame, so I am hitting that hard, but no wheel well rust. Only Rust is on the passenger door by the hinge. Not on the body. I know I am lucky!

Rusty,

Just like every engine!
