Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself and my new ride.

About me: been in the South Sound area for about 3.5 years, military, no plans on moving for the next year. I am decent with a wrench, and can figure most things out on my own if given the time. I do better though if I can watch someone perform the task first.

I have been stalking ih8mud for a while, particularly the 80 series tech area to educate myself as much as possible before deciding to buy a new family vehicle. Have a baby on the way, so needed to get something more family friendly than my truck. Been looking 80 series for a while, looked at a few that were beat and or rusted up but listed in "good condition" and was gonna give up my search until a deal came along that I had to jump on.

Found a nicely loved 96 LX 450 being sold by the 2nd owner with 232k on the odometer. It was a family vehicle, and had all sorts of kid crumbs and cuties on the inside. Needless to say it needed a good cleaning. I had it detailed, and it cleaned up pretty good.

Not much in the way of service documentation as they had their neighborhood mechanic work on it, but it ran good and didn't have a spot of rust on it. When I was buying it, the kids of the family climbed inside one last time to look it over, and the mom took some pictures. They all agreed they were going to miss the LX. Nice to see they loved it that much.

So I have had it not quite at two weeks, and so far I have done the following:

New windshield
New tires
Professional detail

On the agenda:

1) Figure out where minor leaks are coming from
2) Have the seats re-upholstered and add some heaters to the front seats
3) Brake job on the front with some cyro cross drilled rotors

I am debating on the birfield service. This LX does not have the electric lockers and I have been debating swapping them out if I can find some good electric lockers. But then I also realize that I am probably going to keep this rig as close to stock as possible since it will be a family vehicle, so how badly do I really need e-lockers if I am not going to be doing much difficult trail riding?

That about sums it up. Again, just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I am not one for joining forums for my rides, but I hope to hold onto this LX for a while and ih8mud has a lot of good community spirit. Will try attaching a pic or two of the new ride.

Welcome!!! That is a clean looking rig you have there. You definitely made a good choice. I have a '97 LX and have loved every minute I have spent with it. Mines a little more than stock but that was always the plan for mine. Even stock, they are still capable rigs.

Just wanted to drop a quick line and say welcome. We try to have meet ups at least once a month to shoot the bull and swap some stories. We normally post up dates and times right here in the club house. You're more than welcome to join.

Welcome to 'mud and the area, man. As William said we try to have a get together every month and keep things pretty casual around here.

Looks like a great rig, and there are few vehicles that are as solid as an 80 series. I love mine to death.

Feel free to post up if you ever need anything, even if it's completely non-cruiser related. Lots of locals here, and some great folks around the Olympia area.

Wassup man! Nice Lexus. Looks clean. As for lockers, don't really need them if your not going to use them. Very nice to have though. You just missed our August meeting at my house. You would of like it. Maybe we'll see you next month. Aloha!

William, Mike, and Busmup,

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I saw that I had just missed your August meet-up. I also see about the suprise lake run and wish I could go. I am on-call for work this weekend and selling my truck on Saturday. That's ok though since September will be here before we know it.

I have been greatly enjoying the LX. This is the first inline 6 motor I have had, and it's surprisingly smooth. When I first bought it, the previous owners ran 87 Octane gas in it, and I found it would knock going uphill. I switched over to 92 Octane, and the knock is gone and seems to run smoother. So far I have averaged 15-16 in city/hwy mix. I am happy with that since that's what my truck got.

Anyone else experience knock running regular?

Only other question I have at this time is does anyone know of a good interior or upholstery shop in the South Sound area?

Thanks again,

Will

Towing a trailer from Texas to here, on some hot days I noticed some knock pulling a few hills. Mine is a clunker though, so it's a bit hard to discern knock from the other rattles and various noises mine makes.

hey, a little late to the game but welcome brotha! maybe take a look at your plugs and for something for a carbon flush, with that many miles it may be to. If you get a hot piece of carbon on your valve or plug it can caus pre detonation.

hopefully we will all get to meet you soon, and that rig looks sick!

Thanks! It runs ok with 87, just knock uphill or hard acceleration. With 92 though all knock disappears and acceleration seems to be better. It's not my daily driver, so at this time I can afford to feed it premium until I get a chance to check the plugs and timing.

It doesn't look like it has been offroaded much at all, so it still rides quietly going down the road. No extra raddles, bumps, etc.
