Hello and thanks for letting me in the club. Maybe you have some opinions on my thoughts around my newly bought 75. I am a 28 year old european LC fanatic. Fell in love with these machines in Australia in 2015, were I bought a HDJ80 with 500.000 km on the clock. Drove across the whole country with no issues and sold it for the same price i bought it for. Anyways, now I found this tractor, but what the hell am I gonna do with it? It's a 1995 hzj75 with 180.000 km. It's pretty much stock except for the colour of course. It hasn't really been driven much in the past 20 years. It was serviced at 100.000 back in 2005. So T-belt is due and probably water pump as well? Just don't know if I should do it myself or just get my local mechanic to do it. Looks pretty simple on the 1hz. Some nice guy on reddit also mentioned to replace all rubber hoses. For coolant and fuel. They probably crack on the inside after all these years. First thing is to change all the lubricants, i've got some tractor engine oil in the shed, fully synthetic 5w-30, should be fine? Will need to buy some for axels and gear boxes though. Anything else i should check/do?

For now I will keep it as it is. But maybe long term I will put a 2" OME kit on it. And maybe some 31" A/T wheels. I will probably end up liking it more as it is, and save my money. The paint job is done perfectly, but the green is kind of odd to me. I would LOVE it to be in the Taupe beige, what do you think? I like the idea of going on long trips with a tent on the back. I know it's not a troopy, but did any of you build an overlander out of a pickup like this?

I can post some more pics if you are interested.

Cheers

Welcome, sounds like you have a good handle on getting things baselined. There is another member from Denmark you may want to get in touch with that has a similar truck, he uses a camper on it to go camping... though a truck box tent works too!

Hello,

Nice truck.

Baselining (fluids and hoses) is a good start. Have you replaced filters (air, oil, fuel)?

Timing belt change is due every 100000 km. A dash light turns on when that happens.

The 1HZ engine is simple to work on. It is said you can fix it under a tree with basic tools. However, consider how confident you are in your mechanical skills before wrenching on it.

Mechanical skills aside, it is good to have a mechanic (and a shop) you can trust.

Yes gonna do all filters aswell. Record shows that the t-belt was changed at 90.000 km, which is 20 years ago. Mechanical skills are decent and I wanna learn. Did heaps of things on my old lj70 with great succes. Never did a t-belt or water pump before. Looks pretty simple though, but I would be nervous to mess something up.

First step would be to get yourself a FSM and go through that to decide if it is something you want to tackle or not. They are almost non-existent to purchase in paper form, but if you go to the resources section up top, you should be able to find a 70 series FSM and a 1HZ engine FSM to get you started. Good luck, it appears you are already hooked, so welcome to the madness! 😜
