A few weeks ago I purchased a 1988 FJ62. My girlfriend and I have three dogs and we needed something to haul them around and to go camping in. I use to have a 1993 4Runner, great truck but horrible engine and a little too small.

Overall the FJ62 is in good shape. It has 176K miles. Not a bit of rust and the body is straight. The trans got hot on me the first day but I have sense drained the fluid and cleaned the almost completely clogged filter. Runs well now. I'm not too worried about the trans though, it will be gone and replaced with a manual soon. I thought about going with the H55 but I don't have too much in this truck right now and I want to see how the rest of it works out before dropping that kind of money in it. Don't want a new trans attached to a blown motor.

Only mods I've made so far is the dog barrier and a Sirius radio.

That's one clean looking rig. I love white cruisers. If your motor is in good shape and you like manual transmissions (so do I) then you will love the h55. I hope the filter was the problem!

Welcome to 'Mud Cam, it's always nice to see another 62!

Damn, that's a clean looking truck!

How much?

I'm looking at one similar to yours. Can I ask how much you paid for it?

I tried a few of them. I ended up with the Midwest tubular barrier from Petsmart. The wire mesh ones rattled around too much and didn't adjust very well. The tubular one is rock solid and very easy to move back and forth.

i need a dog barrier, any suggestions? Nice rig.

nice, thanks.

Didn't mean to highjack the thread...
Is she staying stock for the time being?

Other than going to a manual trans I think I'll keep it stock. I'm not big into rock crawling. I want more of a traveling/camping machine. Probably a lot of dirt and 4X4 roads but a stock FJ62 should handle that ok.

oh yea if your 62 does not have a cooler for your auto get one it should be in behind the grill where you will also find a power steering cooler:beer:

Well there is a cooler in the rad currently. I snagged an extra cooler from work but it doesn't fit without modifying the truck so stock will have to do until I get around to installing an H42. That probably won't be very long. I'm disappointed in the performance of the 440F. The gear spacing and shift quality are poor. I'm sure most of the shift quality problems are because I'm missing quite a bit of my clutch material and the 176K miles on the trans. When I pulled the filter it was so clogged that a quart or two of ATF came out that was stuck above the filter.
