Hey guys,

I just picked up a 1985 FJ60... It's in pretty good shape but will need some minor fixing up to get it perfect. Looking forward to being part of this community and learning about my new ride!

This will be my daily driver in Northern Michigan. If anyone has any general advice right off that bat on how to keep it running smoothly in the cold weather, I'd greatly appreciate it. I have a mechanical background in aviation, so I'm hoping it transfers over some.

Get ahead of the game on rust, especially in Midwest winters

Thanks for the welcomes... This is a california gem. 2 owners. 141k miles. No rust... from what I can tell the undercarriage is coated. I'll probably have that done again soon since all Michigan does is salt the roads. Pretty much stock except for the bumper lights that aren't wired in 😄 and the tape player that's inop.

That's a gorgeous 60!

Outstanding!! That's a real beauty. You should probably post those pics in "60 series porn". ...or just let me have it, I'm jealous.

Nice 60! Welcome.
A few words of advice:

Buy a factory service manual for the 2F and chassis manual
Replace fuel filter and keep a couple on hand, do a valve adjustment, adjust the carb for your elevation and set idle. Also check and adjust choke. Check for vacuum leaks.

Exactly.

The FSM has engine tuneup guide, go through that beginning to end. Besides that, use the FSM to check specs for Brakes and Steering. Once all that's done you can see what needs replacing.

Oh and start a single thread for questions/buildup unless its a dire need, almost every question you have has been asked about a dozen times, so use the search function thoroughly before asking :)

And Welcome! Looks like a nice truck @dogfishlake might be near you as well, but I know nothing about Michigan.

TC is a couple hours north of me.

Check out the clubhouse: MI- Lake Michigan Land Cruisers

We are meeting in Grand Rapids Saturday, come on down!

well, f%#k me running, that is gorgeous!!! welcome to this crazy train called mud. do you have any idea as to where this yellow brick road leads? even angels fear to tread

Holy crap that's clean!

Dude. What a great rig. You need to go ape**** about the salt in that area. undercoat, or whatever, but don't let that salt get to your rig.
