This is my first post so I'll make it brief until I see how things run on this site. I have an '84 BJ42 that I bought here in San Diego, Calif.
about two years ago. Just got it painted the Dune Beige stock color
and it looks very cool. Truck runs great and I use it for photo shoots
all over the Southwest.
My question: Is their any info available on using the new deisel fuel
with the 3B engine??
Thanks.

I don't have any sites in particular, but I remember reading blurbs on the new ultra low sulphur diesel fuels in the respective oil companies' sites. I remember reading that extra lubricity has been added to these new fuels at the refinery, but I would continue to use additives like Howe's Diesel Treat or Canada Lube Corp's diesel conditioner to keep the fuel pump happy anyway. Other than that, there shouldn't be any issues.

I think the only issue you may have is that some older seals in injection pumps dont seem to like ULSD. You may have a get a leak or two once you start to run the stuff.

aahhhh,

have just noticed this in my 2h, and have never had that particular problem in any diesel cruiser over the years.

well, i guess i'll just replace them all then.

crusty

Nice link man, bookmarked that for my own research. Quick question for Shooter - any notion yet on how difficult it is to source parts for your '42? I like to know what I'm getting myself into, it sounds like body wise the stuff from Aqualu or Canada Cruisers covers that, but otherwise do you have to get everything from someone in Canada or have you had any luck finding local sources?

Sorry for the horrific run-on sentence or two there. :grinpimp:

All fuel injection crap can be bought at a Denso dealer. There are many in the USa I'm sure.

Other stuff, should be availiable at your yota dealer. There is no reason why it wouldn't be. For major stuff you would have to do like Canadians and get from Australia or Japan. We have a couple places that deal in finding parts for them.Like 4weheelauto.

For alt or starter, I think you could just have your one repaired. In fact I bought a 3b alternantor from a place Washington state. And it had a reapir tag on it from a local shop.

SO I don't see why parts would be difficult. Any parts for a 25 yr old vehicle are going to be hard to find.

Hijack over.

Thanks to all !! This is an excellent site !!
The Chevron site referenced has the best explanation and I will pass the info on to my local toyota dealer. They don't see many 3B diesels. Regarding the question about getting parts for the BJ42-
I have had no problems so far. Most of the US suppliers have the
right body parts and Spector has a good inventory of diesel parts.
I've also had good luck with buying items from Canada. So - so far so
good. I am having problems finding good diesel shops that know how to work on the 3B engine. My 3B has been very reliable and I have not needed much help - yet. This change to ultra low sulfur may become a problem. Again - my thanks for all the help.
