Toyota Land Cruiser
The Land Cruiser will reportedly receive changes many have been crying out for. Namely, it will be a dedicated off-roader, instead of a luxury yacht. The next generation will allegedly have just five seats and be significantly cheaper. The report did not provide a launch date.

So there just going to market either the FZJ79 SUV or a Prado to the US? Or just downgrade the current Lexus GX470 with less luxo goodies?

Guessing before the GX460 it would be a Prado which is basically the same vehicle minus all the luxury items and the 4.6 V8.
 
I would hope that it would be more along the lines of the 70 series...
 
This, and a four-door version, would be a hit.

LC70 concept with coil rear end and six-speed gearbox debuts at Tokyo Auto Salon

The annual Tokyo Auto Salon is best known for its wild sports and tuner-car concepts, but the one that caught our eye, as well as US-based LandCruiser specialists Cruiser Outfitters, is this short-wheelbase LC70. The current-shape Cruiser has the usual Auto Salon extras like bright paint and unique body adornments, but the real interest lies underneath.

This show special, which is said to be the work of LandCruiser Chief Engineer, Sadayoshi Koyari, features a coil spring rear suspension configuration and six-speed manual ’box. Before you say that the Bundera had coil all ‘round back in the day, this set-up uses the heavy duty 9.5-inch differential, not the light duty underpinnings under the Bundera and first-generation Prado 70s.

Personally, I believe they are sticking with u.s. based built vehicles for the cruiser. So funny you guys think a 70 style would replace. Any who, I believe also that Lexus is feeling out the Overland themed GX460s and seeing the response. They completely failed with the BMW sports car and cars in general are not selling. So Lexus has to figure out where to sell trucks. Toyota loves Tacoma/Tundra model, but I don't believe the gas mileage and 3rd party support wants to stick with this truckline for another 10 years? Whatever happens, well built trucks are becoming rare now, so we must insist on a vehicle that can be sold to other owners, otherwise, who cares if it is a land cruiser or a Rivian? IDK, just my 2 cents.

It's all speculation. Speculation is fun.

I think a modernized but still relatively simple and rugged (and left hand drive) 70 series concept like that shown above makes tons of sense.

It's different enough from other Toyota or Lexus offering to preclude too much cannibalizing (of 4 Runners, 460s, 200s or 300s).

It would also cut into the annual sale of 230,000 Wranglers. Those sales are unequivocal evidence of U.S. demand for rugged, rigid-axle four wheel drives, sales that Toyota is missing out on entirely for lack of such an offering in the U.S.

And a back-to-basics Land Cruiser is exactly what enthusiasts have been clamoring for.

But, time will tell.
 
I'd like a new FJ look and feel (and price) but with a few of the annoyances fixed: real rear doors, better tie downs in the back, more easily removable rear seats, better fuel economy, less susceptible to micro-ounce tire imbalance, a radio display that is legible from the drivers POV day and night, fewer holes on the top side of the frame and body parts subject to mud and rock collection, a front factory locker would be welcome... among other things.

I wish that I believed Toyota cared about anyone other than drivers of SUVs or another boring hybrid thing. I don't think Toyota really cares what off-road enthusiasts think. It's a matter of numbers, and the buzz about the upcoming Bronco has got to be getting the attention of the people in Toyota City (yes that's where Toyota's headquarters in Japan are).

Not gonna rant, it's all been said. Time will tell.
 
Well Ford said they were going to “bring it” with the new Bronco to compete with the Wrangler. How exactly do they do that without a solid front axle??? They don’t! Ha ha. IF I was Toyota I would see an opportunity here. I would bet the Wrangler WILL out wheel the Bronco, especially in the rough stuff. I wonder why Ford would spend so much money to just deliver a IFS vehicle. Seems like the way our Gov spends money, foolishly!!!
 
Because the new Bronco likely won't really be marketed to the actual off-roading crowd, but to the "looks like it could go off-road" crowd. Just like the Wrangler, I doubt 20% actually ever get wheeled. Which is fine.

Sounds like business as usual for the Land Cruiser in the US. 300 series will be the replacement for the 200 series. If the price tag is still up close to six figures I see no changes just a new luxury boats. Think they are content selling 4Runners to the masses. Been shopping the new and used SUV market. My wife does not want her DD to be the size of the current LC. What I've noticed the 4Runner and Jeep are really the only mid size frame SUV. The pricing reflects this. Look at a Highlander and with a who field of competitors the pricing is aggressive. Toyota imports a 70 series they would be competing with themselves. As much as I would like a 70 series I seriously doubt Toyota will import them. Even the 70 series would be competing with the Tacoma which Toyota is already the leader in mid size pickup.
 
Find it interesting Ford is looking to go back to the Bronco roots while Chevy has gone the complete opposite from the K5 Blazer with the latest version of the Blazer.
