We have a fairly new to us FJ40. Title says it’s a 74. SOR VIN # look up puts production to December of 73. The rig has been through some modifications including 5.3L LS swap, SOA 4” lift and a good deal more. The brakes are beginning to pull when you really get on them. I’m trying to understand how to match up the correct calipers and pads for the rig and wondering if there is a part # visible from under the rig or what I need to do to source the correct ones.

I’ve placed a few photos on this thread. Drivers side caliper appears to have 7 xx and passenger has 6 51 On the inside of the calipers. Any help is appreciated.

A common front disc brake upgrade includes FJ60 vented rotors. That's what I used on my '71 FJ40 upgrade. I also used '91 4-Runner IFS calipers. So you could have most anything on your front axle.

You should be able to check if your rotor is solid or vented without removing anything.
