New to me 1972 Freeborn red fj40. This is a build to replace the fj40 I built in 2009/2010 that burnt in the Camp Fire in Paradise. Here are pics of the old 1970 fj40, the new project and my first question.

So question is...
Springs looked stock to me but when I cleaned them up they have what appears to be a mitsubishi logo? They are just UNDER 42 inches eye to eye and 19.5 and 23 ish with military wrap on short end. Anybody know if they are stock, aftermarket?

Also a huge thanks to Bill Faulkner aka cumminscruiser who gave me a GREAT deal on a second seat frame kit after the first one I had purchased a decade ago became toast!

Thank you. It sure sat like a stock cruiser and it has the small bushings so I thought it might be. Good to know.

Mitsubishi built the springs for Toyota. They are stock.
News to me, back when Downey designed, and had springs built, Toyota Motor Sales had their spring manufacturer (NHK) flown-in with factory blue prints, which we designed off of in our engineering dept.. We then added two features factory springs didn't have (at that time), Toyota subsequently added one of those features into the factory springs. I don't know if perhaps NHK was owned by Mitsubishi, of if Toyota eventually switched to Mitsubishi ???

Has anybody else seen this stamp on their “stock” springs?

Alot of the Mistu springs will have a white paint emblem on them. I thought I had a picture, but I dont.

Just stumbled upon this thread after looking at my springs last night. I'm assuming these are OEM springs, not the add-a-leaf portion though. 1981 fj40.
