You could probably make one out of garden-variety parts for alot less than a kit one, you just need to be satisfied with it not looking like an ARB snorkel.
AWL TEQ here on 'mud makes a really nice one out of metal for around 300 bucks, and I'd wager it looks alot better than the ARB.
Mark W. has mentioned being satisfied with snorkles made from PVC because they flex against obstacles, like branches, and are affordable to repair and replace.
