So the 80 is pretty much stock, it has some 265/75r16 muds on it, and about 239,XXX miles.
I got very little service history on it.
The good:
Axles do not leak
runs and drives great, 70 on the Hwy
no other major issues
The Bad;
valve cover leak
power steering leaks badly
needs a serious deep clean

Plans:
Valve cover gasket leaks, need to fix that,
Power steering leaks , need to change hoses first see if the stops it.
Change trans fluid
flush and fill cooling system
new intake tube
full tune up
egr delete
clean
33/or 35s
wheel it!

This will be use to transport the family around off road in northern NM area plus trips to Colorado, Alpine loop. black bear, etc.

Power steering leaks - believe it or not, Amazon has a gates hose kit for the high pressure hose that's a perfect fit! For the low pressure hose, read up on old threads and you'll find that CruiserDan found a suitable replacement from another vehicle with a proper bend in the hose for our application. I think we have to trim the hose a little or something very minor. The critical thing here is to buy a hose with an elbow in it, otherwise, this ends up being your weak point. Usually the hose will let go in the middle of nowhere, like it happened to CruiserDan during a cruise moab event, I think it was.

egr delete- Witt's end has a cool delete kit, not necessary but really well thought of, as all of his products usually are.

33/or 35s - i'm a strong proponent of 33s and a 2.5" of lift. This combo will get you to 95% of the terrain while maintaining a smooth hwy driveability and zero vibes from front driveshaft. As soon as you go past 2.5" lift, pandora's box opens up and you start chasing issues. This is just my opinion but I've had two 80's with 2.5" and 4" and the 2.5" was a smooth sailer and the ex-wife approved. However, the 4" lifted 80's is super manly :flipoff2: You can dump a whole bunch of money here now that the market has opened up quite a bit in the suspension dept. The Slinky from Aust is getting a whole bunch of attention these days it seems.

full tune up - Toyota sells a dizzy cap+rotor+wire kit and it's a super nice kit and at 25% off for the HDC & Mud members at American Toyota on Alameda, it's hard to beat. I also buy spark plugs from Toyota as well. Plug N play, done deal. I don't think it's even worth looking elsewhere for a tune up kit IMHO.

My contact at Toyota is the parts manager Sean Keller sean.keller@lhmauto.com Just shoot him an email with your wants/needs then wait for an email for pickup. Although, you live in Los Alamos so I'm guessing shipping is your other option. Sean might have a free shipping option if you meet the min purchase requirement , not sure what that is though.

Pipe up if you have questions and don't feel like going through the myriad of threads in the 80 section.

FAQ Chapter 4 Maintenance

Ok had a busy day today, First went out to clean the battery terminals all went good, then tried to start the truck and would not fire up.
Then I noticed that one of the positive wires had become separated, fixed that and it started but idled really low like 200 rpm. Also changed the negative terminal.
Then changed the intake boot, with I knew was bad and she ran and ran great!

Later on in the day I changed the power steering return line, the high pressure line that goes in to the pump was fine so I did not change it.
Also added a Center Diff lock switch, a buddy has a extra hazard switch so I used that, cant beat free!! I do need to put a sticker on the switch so no one gets confused.

EGR delete today, took about 10 minutes. I used the huddexpo kit, and blocked off all the hoses with ball bearings.
Super easy. Temp sensor was a little dirty.

Is Landy your nickname for your Cruiser? Just asking since I've heard that term used to refer to Land Rovers and that's almost as bad as calling it a Jeep.

I changed the xfer case oil and trans fluid today. Xfer case was fine really did not need to but figured what the heck.
Trans fluid was OK, still reddish, truck seems to drive and shift a little better.
Next up the diffs. then valve cover gasket..ugg..
