although i like the practicality of the proper tray back conversion, i like the looks of the Saudi truck...

So do I ,but the extension made the ass look too long.
Engineers have a saying that "if it dont look right ,it usually aint".

I think the dual cabs made from a cab chassis are the toughest and look the best;)

hey xray do you know if the V8 diesal in Saudi the same as here in Aus or they twin turbo like a few comments on this page are suggesting? i would of thought they just single turbo like here in Aus

Looks nice. but rear overhang quite substantial and will get caught in crossings.

The V8 twin turbo not yet available in RSA from the Toyota, but some imports form Australia is around. They are on the market there with the pick-up ( bakkie we call it ) and I think with the 70 series wagonn as well.

Would seriously consider swapping my 4500 petrol for that V8. The diesel here on the 70 series is old 4.2 straight 6. Slow noisy etc

The 4500D4D available here in Australian 76-8-9 Series is single turbo only. Twin turbo only comes in the 200 Series.

Basie, I travelled in Namibia last year and went 4-wheeling in the dunes out of Swakopmund. I love the double cab 75s you guys do over there. Much better than the one seen in this thread.

Wow a nice work on the first photos. I have seen couple of those kinds but I always wonder if they were special order from factory or local garage work

i still like the look, and if it is only for going to the market and back i think it will stand up fine.

now if it was for trapzing into the rutted woods for a load of firewood then i might question it.

I thought I read somewhere that the 70 series got the single turbo V8 diesel, instead of the twin turbo V8 diesel that is in the 200 series, as well as it being detuned to a lower power level, because the rest of the driveline couldn't handle the power of the twin turbo engine.

Not sure if that is true or not, but it sounds quite possible.

Some people think the output figures of the single turbo diesel V8 are very low for what it is, so that would make sense.

If true, then I would think it would be the same worldwide.

The workhorses have never had the same HP as the top of the range models.
The 7* series never got the 12HT or 1HD T and when it did get the 1HD FTE,it was missing the intercooler the 100 series had.
People who spend $70k-110k on a luxury 200 series dont want a plumber driving past with the same engine in his 79 series:D
Nissan have done the same thing with their 3.0TD by not giving the Navarra the varaible pitch turbo vanes .

Rechipping the V8 would be the easiest way but some owners say it already has too much power for offroad use and the gearbox ratio does not match the HP and torque on road.

LOL!!
<you know my view of most engineers...>

Hello,

The most dangerous thing in the world is a young engineer with a portable computer... And without an older supervisor/engineer to rein her/him in.

Engineers often forget that their mistakes lead to catastrophic failures. I think this is not emphasized enough on engineering schools.

Sadly, many engineers go through their professional careers without understanding this, even after repeated mistakes, giving the profession a bad name.

the more i meet actual engineers the more my attitude about them is changing...
<slow process that is easily hindered by crap design>

Hello,

Why make it simple when you can design it to be complex but good looking? This comes to my mind when I hear about poor design.

At work I often find myself arguing with other engineers who appear to live by this principle and refuse to keep things simple. The more you overdo the plumbing, the more likely it is to fail.

Too much time on the drawing board and the computer and little, if any, time on the field, getting their hands dirty. But that is just my opinion.

As Einstein put it, "everything should be made as simple as possible, but not elementary."

haha maybe one of them would like to do a straight swap for my 4.2 turbo 79 lol. i heard a v8 diesel troopy the other day with a 3 inch exhaust and it sounded awesom:bounce:

Would that be a white one with the procomp or mickey thompson alloys ,good lift, around wangara

where in the world does toyota make that short wheel base new 70?? that thing would be insane... can someone please refer me to a link for info or photos.. i am soooooooooooooo interested.
