Well, I'm new to this group and this is my first FJ40 so wish me luck. Question for all of you. I am going to give this thing a much needed tuneup but already ran into something odd. I went to buy a oil filter but the one everyone has is a screw on... mine however is a snap on (toilet paper style). Do you know where I can find one? It's driving me bonkers. Also, can someone verify this is a stock engine? Any other advice would be great!

Check in the 25 lower on the main page. The number for canister should listed under thepart stiky at the top. Your Toyota dealer should be able to get it for you if you give him the part number. That is the way it works on ore 3/69 cruiser. I'm on my phone now but could get it later when I'm home.

Looks like a stock engine. My advice, find out the engine's manufacturing date BEFORE you order parts for it. I assumed my 66 came with a 66 engine. Rookie mistake on my part.

Welcome.

That would be awesome. I am going to dive knee deep into it this weekend!

Sweet looking ride!

Oh yeah :flipoff2: Welcome

Welcome to the never ending spending... That is a great looking cruiser. What are your plans with it?

Thanks Johnny I was just going to look it

The engine picture is that of a F135 which is the correct engine for a 67 FJ40. The canister oild filter last thru 2/69. Then is was a spin on adapter until the 74 model. If your interested you can get a kit that will adapt the oil filter to a spin on type. You can save you oil parts if you ever want to go back to stock. I did this to my 68 FJ40 back in the mid eighties.

Im going to attempt to restore the inside and keep it as close to stock as i can. of coure with exception to the tires and rims, i am going to keep 33's on it :)

when you change the canister filter there is a small drain plug on the bottom of the canister be sure to drain the canister before you open it up or a mess will result, have fun, Larry

Here is a picture of the engine ID. Do you know much about these? I am having a hard time confirming the year of this engine.... ID: F243255

I cant find it anywhere online.
