Ok. i drive a Prius now as an everyday driver. I am wanting to get rid of because I need a truck. i have always had trucks but was kind of pressured into getting the Prius by my father because we were suppose to be opening a restaurant in Holly Hill and I would be doing a tom of driving. Well it still hasn't opened and everyone knows how bad I need a truck. I have always had full size trucks but got tired of driving such a big vehicle everyday around town. I am leaning towards a new Tacoma 4x4, long bed, 4 door. I am just a little concerned that later down the road I wish I would have gone with the new F-150 or even just a nice used truck. i love American trucks but love Toyota's as well. i am a conservative guy and don't care for modern vehicles too much but some of the newer stuff is nice. I just wonder if the Tacoma is too "teenish" looking. I like the size of the truck for around town driving and off roading and obviously Toyota's reliability and resale value. Maybe someone here can give me an opinion and say something I may not have thought of that might help make my decision.

then get the Tundra....full size with V8.....you wont miss the FORD after having the comparable full size Toyota. My best American truck in recent years was my Dodge Ram 2500 HD 4x4 SLT with Cummins TD under hood....but doubt you need to pull down someones house or pull stumps....check out the Tundra, even a left over 2008 or 2009.

I am a die hard Toyota fan, but IMHO they really screwed up with the Tundra. It's big, thirsty, ugly, expensive and definately does not have the reliabilty that Toyota has in there Camry's or other cars.

If you want a truck, get an american full size, if you want half a truck, get a Tacoma. I have driven a Tacoma for 4 years, it isn't a real truck, but they do have there purpose. Towing and hauling people is not one of them though.

Traci has a nice preowned Taco 4dr 4wd ....If you want I can get the mileage and price......and year....probably a year or too old....

I love Toyotas, but you need to look at a full size American truck. I like the new GMC's, they have the fit and finish and to me are the most attractive of the american lineup. I'm not a fan of the new F-150.
The Tundra's are nice, but you can get an GMC or Chevy for at least $10,000 under a Tundra price.
Good luck with your search!

you looking used or new...if used my buddy at work is selling his GMC truck...99 model...runs good, new brakes, calipers, tranny, etc. Might be able to get it for just a few thousand.

Right now the new car market is very soft and the used car market is strong. I will probably buy new and finance it. My brother has a new loaded Tundra and I really do not like it. I am not a fan of Dodges unless it was like what Brock had. I sold an 08' GMC Z71 and I liked it. I drove the new F-150 Lariat and WOW!!!! I was extremely impressed. As far as the Tacoma goes, they seem to very well liked in the Tacoma world. I was thinking about buying a diesel F-250 just because I like diesel's.
the only thing I would ever tow is my boat, which the Tacoma would do just fine but even then my boat sits on the boat lift at my dock. Also,
I may toe=w the 40 on a flat bed trailer, which I can tow that with my wife's Suburban or my Dads Dodge Ram, but I hate that truck.
Belmont. What year Tacoma did you drive? The newer style?

I owned the older style. A 2004, but I drove my friends 2007. It wasn't all that much more truck.

My father in law just bought the new F-150 and he said it drove about as rough as his 2002 Dodge Ram he traded in. Granted it was just an STX 4x4, and not a plush Lariat, but it has always seemed that GM had the nicest riding trucks, and most dependable motors. Now trannys, and electronics are a different story with GM's.

I have never liked anything by Dodge except the Cummins trucks, so unless you are getting a diesel I would stick to the GM and Ford. Which sounds like what you are doing anyways. If there are any older body style diesel dodges around you could probably get a good deal on one of those. But I here the new Cummins trucks are really pricey.

Good Luck, if you need a buddy to truck shop with I have my nights free for the next month with not much to do.

Traci said the 2 Tacomas she has are both 2wd but she said she could get you an 08 or 09 with 10k miles from auction.....Let the first buyer take the hit....Its a big one....If she can help let me know....

Good luck with whatever you get..... :)

Edit: She said she could get you a new Toyota at dealer pricing as well....just in case

Currently Chevy is offering some killers deals on their chevys with warranty and money off. I know for a while West Ashley toyota was knocking 10k off new Tundras.

Here is a helpful video. I won't spoil it and say who came in 1st. But it wasn't who I expected. Ignore the comment about the Tundra being cheaper. They are just looking at MSRP, and are not considering people like Dodge are offering $10,000 in rebates/incentives.

heard today that all the chrysler dealerships in Tri County area will be closed or losing their dealership contract....except Rick Hendricks.

Strom Altman on Rivers-Remount said they will stay open and deal in used cars but will be liquidating everything on lot that is new over next 45 days....and customers are going to get them at below cost.

Might want to check on a new Hemi 4x4 Dodge 1500

not if he plans on never selling it and driving the truck until it is worn out. resell only matters if buy new every 2-3 years.

has a choice though.....buy used and hope you dont inherit any problems....buy American new and lose value but still have a dealer in area to service it for warranty period....or buy Toyota and pay a little more and have something worth trading in few years. LOL

I've been in and around the car biz for the last 15 years...I just hope he takes advice from someone who knows whats going on......Resell doesnt just matter in the case of buying "new" cars every 2-3 years....And when you're considering a Dodge you automatically start at the bottom of the value heap...

Even if he decides to keep it forever, What do you think the Insurance company is going to base a loss on if he wrecks it after 2 years?

not here to argue Jim....just know my Dodge Cummins 4x4 did not start at bottom and I got every penny it was worth on resale 3 years later plus some. Just means our experiences are different and we think different...not that I dont know what I am talking about.

Never totaled a vehicle or wrecked one in 30 years of driving everything from motorcycles to 18 wheelers...so have no response to the replacement versus value of vehicle.

I just buy good quality vehicles for a fair price and drive the hell out of them....never concerned with resale value. I will bow out to your car biz experience though....

I stand by that you can get some outstanding deals for value with the Dodge Ram trucks....and sure it will be same for GMC/Chevy before too long as they are also restructuring. If I was worried about resale and insurance values I wouldnt buy a new vehicle period...I would always buy used.

You're so funny.....Don't get all touchy feely on me.....You're still my favorite FJ Cruiser guy despite Milligans RTT.....

Just get payoff protection insurance if you are that worried about the value if it gets totaled. I think most manuf. are offering it for free anyways if you finance through them.

Gap insurance is never "free" and doesnt help a paid for vehicle thats 2-3 years old.....Read the fine print....gap insurance doesnt cover the entire difference in quite a few situations....

Just because people research cars before they buy them and have a great experience with whatever they buy doesnt mean they know the other end of the business....I see know it alls getting educated every day on what they think they know because of what they heard on TV about the automotive industry........Its probably one of the biggest areas where wrong advice is given....
