I think one of the wheels on my 62 is bent (in addition to the damaged wheel that's holding the spare), so when I order new tires I'm looking at some new steel wheels as well. Reading some of the wheel/tire size threads I see alot of conflicting reports as to what backspacing works best. I'm looking at a set of 15x8 wheels (these American Racing 445883 - American Racing Wagon Wheels - Overview - SummitRacing.com ) that are listed as having 3.75" of backspacing. IIRC, the stock backspace is 3.5", correct? I'm running 4Runner calipers that I already had to grind to get the OEM wheels to not rub, so my concern is that I won't be able to get any more backspacing than the OEM wheels have. I've searched around and can't find any definitive answer.

Long story short, for those using this combination, are there caliper clearance or tire rubbing issues when using a 15x8 3.75"BS rim with 33x10.5 tires?

The clearance of the calipers is dependent on the shape of the "face"... the center section of the rim.. basically just how flat or how "belled" it is. Even a rim that fits fim in terms of back spacing can have caliper clearance issues.

The backspacing is entirely about the outer section of the rim.

A very few rims calling themselves 3.75 backspaced will fit without hitting the knuckle arm. I have not personally used them, but there are a few out there.

With the addition of a 1/4 inch spacer all 3.75 backspace rims I have encountered will fit without hitting the knuckle arm.

My personal experience only.

And I can't tell you a damn thing specifically about those rims you are considering. ;)

Mark...

Damn. I'm having a hell of a time finding steel 15x8 wheels with a 3.5" backspace. I really don't want to have to use spacers. I did for a while a few years ago and never was comfortable with them.

x2 on 3.75" being the magic #. Try Summit. They have tons of rims to choose from...I have acquired numerous sets through them.

Yeah Summit is where I've been looking. Still not finding what I want though. What IS available is either too plain or way too yo yo g money bling bling for a 62.

Is there anyone who's running 15x8 wheels on a 3.75" BS with the 4Runner calipers?

I'm not running the same set-up you have, but my wheels are 15" w/ 3-11/16" BS. They just fit. I wouldn't run anymore BS than that, or you'll rub the TRE's. I took some pics before I got the tires mounted:

Pass side TRE - It looks like the bushing is rubbing, but it's not. Any closer and it would.

Driver side TRE - a little more clearance on this side

Also, they just barely clear the face of the stock calipers. I couldn't get a clear pic of that though.
Hope this helps with the BS question.

If those wheels were 16 inch instead of 15, do you think you could avoid the TRE clearance issue with the 3.75" backspacing? Lost of 16 inch tire options, including 10 plys.

I ordered two sets, out of stock that were fabbed at the mfgr. Had to wait a little longer, but it only took a week or so and then were direct shipped from mfgr. Speced out backspacing and width. It was easy...

That might be what I end up doing if it comes down to it. if that ends up being the case I'll get 15x10" wheels with a 3.5" BS and have them made hub centric as well (or if I can't do that just order with a smaller center bore than my hubs and have them machined afterwards).
