Need RTH! Spark plug broke in well!

so I was pulling my plugs to perform a compression test and #2 snapped in the well. Royally f’ed I think. See pic below. Threads all snapped off. I think P.O. used the wrong plugs which probably contributed to this happeneing. Not sure what to do, any help appreciated.

X2. Recently encountered A similar issue just a different motor and plug. PB blaster and easy out. It works. Take your time.
 
Alright so I got it out! Hell yeah....oh wait. It’s stripped. F&$@ me. So what’s next? Chase it and hope for the best?
 
No, if you chase the threads, the shavings will wind up in the bore and then you really will have a mess.

The only way to fix this is to pull the head.
 
There is a method to fix using candle wax, rope, shop vac & a heli-coil, but @Malleus really is being the voice of reason.

Pulling the head & doing a proper heli-coil (or sleeve & weld if that bad) - is what your motor needs to have strong threads that neither drop shavings into the chamber or push a spark plug back up towards the hood on some random day.

And doing it right means you can check/swap plugs down the road the right way.

Always use a never-sieze like product on threads & start using a length of 3/8" ID rubber hose, not a socket & extension, if at home & can control that. Prob why yours is crossthreaded/overtq'ed that made this mess.
 
In the past I've chased threads with with a tap covered in wheel bearing grease to capture the shavings. You could then use a magnet to fish out any leftovers just to be on the safe side.

Iv used this method on on a 3b with broke glow plug and the magnet came out clean.
 
Long shot, but could the threads on that plug have been fubar'd before you took ownership? Perhaps jammed in there by a PO who just said to hell with it. Doubtful by how fresh the stripped portion is, but never know... I'd take a look down there with a good bore scope.

All sorts of suck you've got there either way, hate to see posts like this.
 
Well the good news is that this morning I diagnosed a bad head gasket with a block tester. Head was coming off in a few weeks anyway. Just sucks that this happened and I can’t drive it til then as it is a (short) daily driver. Not all bad. Not all good. I think the P.O. put the wrong plugs in and hoping nothin more is fubar’d. I got 3, 4, 5 our with patience and nothing cross threaded in there. Now on to no 6...
 
Right out of the gate, no gasket, just a tapered seal which is NOT how the toyota head was designed.

IMO every plug hole needs to be chased at least. Those tapers likely messed up the top thread in holes 1-5

Yep - #6 where we all pop the HG looks good & tan - not 'steam-cleaned' AKA the big dogpile/doo-doo.

But if you have a goofed head across 5 spark bores, might as well do the update HG & either fix that head right or call @arcteryx /Cruiseryard & see if he's got a used head kicking around. Don't 1/2-ass it & you'll be a satisfied 80 guy even 10-15 yrs down the line.
Take the hit now, if you plan to be a long term owner of that specific 80.

You'll appreciate it when you're in BFE & banking on the idea of 'Cruiser reliability'.

Yeah I was going to replace the head gasket...and about a 1000 other things while I’m in there. Everything cooling wise was gonna get replaced. Haven started my research on all parts needed yet or the ‘while your in there’ yet. Need to find a place to get the head machined. Should I have them mess with threads?
 
This may help...but I just read that you need a head gasket.
I previously owned a Ford work pickup with the 4.6 Triton and about once a year a spark plug would blow out taking the threads with it. The aluminum head design only has about 3 to 4 threads and over time they become weak and let go. Anyway, I used a sert kit which essentially involved drilling the spark plug hole out to a slightly bigger size. Tapping it to a larger size and then using red locktite to set a new insert in place. Before installing the spark plug with antiseize, I just started the truck and "all" the shavings blew out the hole. You could research the Time-Sert company for a kit that would fit the 1FZ spark plug. I know the Ford kits are available at Autozone and usually within a couple hours I was back up and running. Might be an easier, less expensive ordeal than pulling the head.
One more, if you take the head to a machine shop I'm 99.9% sure they will be doing the Time-Sert kit to fix your thread issue.
