Sounds like you narrowed it down to the power wire from the fuse block to the switch. I bet it is a bad connection on the fuse panel.

I once had the wire break loose from the solder on the ignition switch itself, would just die going down the road, then come back to life, as the wire restuck itself to the switch. Took awhile to figure that one out, as everything looked fine when you took the cover off the steering column and checked the switch out. For me it was the igintion wire that was coming off.

See if you got power to your amp gauge ,if the amp gauge is blowen you wont get power

Was finally able to put some time in this weekend to track down this glitch. The amp gauge checked out with power going in and coming out. So I attached a lead from the amp gauge directly to the constant 12v spade terminal on the back of the ignition switch-she fired right up. That left only one place the power could be dying-the main 12v constant lead coming off the wiring harness going to that tab. So I tore the harness out from inside the dash and trace it to where it connect to the main harness. What a pain the ass. The wire looked fine where it connect to the main lead and to the spade terminal but inside the wire it was caked with green and white powder/corrosion. After 35 years, time finally got the best of it. Replaced the wire and I am rolling again. Thanks for all the suggestions

Big thanks to JimC for being my electrical phone in help line.

I know that per the norm everybody is going to poo poo on this opinion but I will say it anyway. It's a 35 year old wiring harness that is originally copied from Lucas crap. You can replace the whole harness with a modern aftermarket wiring harness in one weekend and you will not have to worry about electrical issues for a very long time. You will enjoy the ability to see at night with the bright lights and love the fact that the electrical gremlins are gone for good.
