Need Radio '73 FJ40

If you are just looking for a functional radio that will fit in the dash without cutting, look for a twin shaft radio from the late 70's - mid 80's with a cassette player in the salvage yards or flea-bay. If you are after a 'correct' radio for a restoration, be prepared to pay $150.00 or more for a mono OEM radio. And as stated by Eddy, an AM/FM radio was not offered for your year, so it wouldn't be correct anyway.

I've heard that radios from mini-trucks fit, imagine an ancient Corona or Corolla would fit. (Buy a '74 corona beater, not running for a hundred bucks. Take out the radio and sell the rest for a hundred bucks.)

That's what I used...found it a a swap meet for $10.00. Works great, looks like it belongs there, has presets, and is stereo. :grinpimp:

a DIN mount pioneer works.

Pics and a model number please.

Deutsches Institut für Normung e.V. (DIN; in English, the German Institute for Standardization) is the German national organization for standardization...

That means they're supposed to be all the same. The DIN mount Sony I have is about 5mm too big to fit the width of this hole. Maybe the Pioneer is DIN-sized on the outside of their rails, but the actual stereo is smaller? Did you use the original rails, or a home-made mounting system?

radio

Pioneer DEH-2800MP. The truck didn't have a radio when I got it. This is installed with the vendor supplied "slide in" mount. Could be a PO had enlarged the hole, the bottom part was a bit beat up.

Your hole is cut out for that to fit like that. There should be some metal showing between the pads.

I'll look for a picture. Edit: best I could find. The bezel of the stock radio covers some metal as well as what you can see.

x2 here's a pic of the opening...only one side has the pad...but...you can see how it sticks past the padding

maybe Fast Eddy has a pic of both pads inplace?

I see mine must be enlarged. I drive mine to work daily so enjoy the tunes more than having correct radio.

Subscribed to this as I would really like to fill the radio hole myself.

To be honest - I want the cheapest option to fill the hole

Let me know what this guy says if you wouldn't mind.

I asked about group-buy pricing. He's retired and casts them one-at-a-time, so that's a "no".

He's sending a Paypal invoice to me for one. I'll post up a review when I get it.
