When i bought my 74' it didn't come with a tank and i need to put one in and i have found one but i need to know what else i need to install it. I know i need new lines and a sending unit. i also have the metal cover that goes under the passenger seat but over the tank. Are there metal straps i need as well to hold in place?

Mine didn't have any metal straps at all. Just the metal cover. make sure you vent it good to the out side if not on a warm day the cab will smell like fuel. I had that problem for a few months
check SPecter off roads site. Has some good diagrams. http://www.sor.com/ search for gas tanks. that should help.
As I recall, the metal cover is bolted down, no straps.

Must've been later than 9/73, and my 75 has the cover as well. 
Straps? We doneed nostinkin straps.Mine hardly ever has any gas in it anyhow.
