Putting this under 45 section because you guys work on more old stuff....

We have all seen and found a few(if lucky) elusive "barn finds". I stumbled accross an fj40 on the side of the road in Moab. It had been on the side of the road for sale for months. It looked like a dead carcass. I have two rules: 1) always stop and look and cruisers 2) buy them if you can.
That being said, I now live 2,000 miles away in Florida, so my looking would probably benefit a friend in Utah. This 40 had spent years in the dessert and its seats were rotted away. Long story short...no significant rust and just about everything had been kept original and treated very well. (missing bench and rear seats and rims of course). Looks like I was going to be shipping one home.

It is now in my garage in Florida....where there are no rust free 66 cruisers and I am begining the basic restoration process.

I need to rebuild both the clutch and brake master cylinders. SOR only has it for the brake. How about the clutch?

Also, it has original canister oil filter...any of those replacement filters around for the canister?

I included a couple original and after spray paint removal pics. Contemplating a clear coat to keep natural patina?????

Thanks,
Dukes

Cool find Dukes! First off like whitey said it is a FST and it is also a '65 not a 66... the windshield vent stopped in '65. Likely it sat on a dealer lot for a year before being sold and then was titled as a '66.

Also You can get the oil filters new from Toyota still for like $3.00 a pop. I believe the clutch and brake rebuilds are interchangeable.

Looking forward to your watching your progress

65 is correct

Yes, it is a 65. I had figured that out. So many things are original in the engine compartment, I was surprised to see that the brass tag was missing and so was the screw....just can't figure out why that was done when everything else seems so untouched.

Thanks for the info guys.

Clemson vs FSU

is it hijacking when I change subject on my own thread?

Clemson, I was worried about our game after watching you guys beat UGA. Then after seeing our new quarterback, It looks like we are setting up for another good game this year.

Go Noles!

you might visit my "little orphan annie" thread in the 25 section since i've rebuilt a ton of stuff on my 1962, keeping it original as possible, in the last 8 months.

if it's the 1" bore master (tin can reservoir, and i believe, some plastic res), the clutch and brake masters take the same kit, the clutch just doesnt' use some of the parts. there's a pic in my thread showing the difference
