My 1976 FJ40 squeaks and moans when the body rocks and sways. I can reproduce the sound when it's parked, by rocking the rig back and forth. I think it's the rubber in the shock mounts that's making all the racket.

The shocks are fairly new. Any suggestions to help quiet it down? Anywhere else I might check?

Thanks

Lance

My '78 squeeked and moaned quite a bit. I put new greesable shackles and bushings on last month and that took care of the problem. I also cleaned the spring leaves while apart and greesed the mating surfaces.

Thanks Bob

Hey Bob,

Thanks for the tips. It was the leaves after all. I didn't take them off, I'm sure I will sooner or later. I used WD40 to get down in there. What kind of grease did you use? Does it matter?

I don't think it matters . I used the same stuff that I used for the suspension zerk fittings. I think most of the squeek in mine was caused by the worn shackle bushings. New bushings and shackles have tightened everything up. If your bushings are original it is probably time for a change.
