Hi everyone, for starters let me say it's a pleasure to be a part of this forum. I just recently bought a lj78 2lte and even though it's not running well for some reason I'm still in love with and I'm committed to bringing it back in top running condition. The car is in Haiti and my main problem is it has not force to go up steep hills I have to either shift it on 2 and if the hills is really peak I have to shift it on L to give the engine more force and still it struggles to up hill. It runs fine on flat ground but I also get this little whining sound I was told its sign that the turbo is going bad. I'm kind of on tight budget so the less I can send for now to resolve this issue is what I'm look forward to doing so look forward to everyone advice

And the beginning I thought it was a fuel problem so I change the fuel filter and the fuel pump seem to be working fine then I added a fuel treatment and I notice a better boost but it was only on flat ground. Again, as soon as I get to a big steep hill it looses power and then I have to either shift to 2 or L to give it a little boost. I only get a lot of smoke coming out the exhaust only when I first start the car in the morning. I had watch a YouTube video that shows signs of when your turbo is going bad and it made this whining sound that I'm also getting with my car so I really think it's the turbo that's going bad that's causing me not to have force going uphill. Also I had remove the turbo hose that connect with the air filter and I notice a lot of oil inside of that and I've cleaned it out with a rag but still no defference when I go up the hill. So what do think and can you elaborate a little more on how the the egt/boost gauge would help my issue. I will take two pictures to show you the two areas I found oil in and maybe it can help us better determine where the problem

Also can someone refer to me simple intercooler system to add to my engine. Preferably on eBay

IS your check engine light on? check for codes there first.
You can wiggle the turbo with fingers (not running) to check if you have too much play.
some oil in these pipes is normal, You need to do a engine compression check first to verify the basics.

I'm going to check the turbo fan to see if it wiggle and I'll let you know the outcome. Also, is it very necessary to block off the EGR valve to better improve the proformace of the car.

As for the check engine light, no it's not on.

With regard to the power, make sure the boost line to the boost sensor has not come off (either end). This will cause the computer to not add fuel as the boost comes up. Results in the very low power you are talking about.

I know this is a silly question but where would find the boost line with sensor

follow your finger to the intake throttle body, there will be small hose coming out of a nipple in the throttle body. follow the hose to the inner fender where this sensor will be bolted along with the diagnostic port and bunch of relays.

Thanks!! Where would I find the boost line?

Further to what Rummat81 said, it's hose part # 90447-08060 in this diagram. Follow it through a little filter and then to the intake manifold. Make sure it has not come disconnected anywhere.
