Hey guys,

In the middle of heavy frame off for my soon to be expedition to Alaska. I have a 1979 HJ45 Land Cruiser with a 2H motor. I want to order new motor mounts ASAP to keep my build going according to plan. I am pretty sure on what to order for the front two, but the rear motor mounts I took off my 2H look different than what I pulled up from the manual via Toyotaoverstockparts.com.

I attached a pictures of my two rear motor mounts off the frame and on the frame to show you what came off and I included a stock photo/technical manual picture of what I found the motor mounts look like. I might be able to use the rear mounts that came off of my frame, but I had to cut one of the bolts on top of the round insulator mounts to get it off. Now I have to find a way to put a new bolt in the insulator mount or weld a new one on.

Any help on what direction to go and what mounts you have on your 2H and their mounting locations would be very helpful!

- Vincent

On an HJ47 there is no rear mounts for the 2H .. there's bolt on brackets for the block that brace to the bellhousing..

The rear mount in the 1st photo is used on the later models. You need part numbers
12371-47031 RH
12372-47031 LH
You should ask the owners of FJ4* ,they may use the same as what you have. They have different part # numbers but maybe they will work.
Otherwise, they are $40 approx each plus postage on aussie ebay.

first notice that 2H have rear mounts in 47 ..

BTW this is your tranny mount ... over cross member in later models 60 series at least ..

I would like to compare a 7* and 6* rear mount. They have different part numbes but the H55f drilled holes are in the same place. If there is any difference between a 60 and 70 series ,it must be in the spacings for the mount to the crossmember.

Rosco Thanks for the heads up on the part number this helps out allot!

That transmission rubber mount is off a late model 60 series onwards, what you want is one like this?

Its curved to suit the bracket used on the late model HJ47 and the very early 60 series?

It bolts to the chassis here?

If you want to use the straight later model rubber transmission mount which lifts the gearbox higher for more clearance the you have to make some adapter blocks?

Yeah that would be it I believe, I need a FJ60 crossmember and transmission mount for my 5 speed that I am mating with my 2H. I will have to cut and weld the bracket in though, because from the information I have gathered I was told that to in order to get the crossmember to fit which I will have to shorten it a little. I believe the FJ60 frame is wider than my HJ.

Here is a site that sells the crossmember and mount:

Watrob ,how does the newer style rear mount attach to the transmission on an older model? Will it interfere with the handbrake?

Whether its a 4 speed or 5 speed, where the rubber transmission mount bolts onto the transmission is the same, the transmission mount that is flat on the bottom of the rubber is used only on the late model 60, 70 & 80 series cross members which are flat.

the "L" shape (left & right) part of the bracket just bolts onto the chassis frame?

I don't think the HJ47 existed in 1979. It was an HJ45 with the H engine. That bellhousing that you have is from the H engine. So buy the motor mounts from an HJ45 or put a crossmember under your H55. I've run both setups.

As a suggestion, since you're doing such a nice job on the truck, maybe consider the IPOR skid plate and use it as an H55 rear mount. I did this and it works great. Nice piece of very sturdy protection too.

Yes it is a 1979 HJ45, with a 2H motor :). So are you saying if I run the rear H bellhousing support mounts, I don't need the cross member support bracket for my H55? I will check into that IPOR skid plate, that would be very nice to have that to support my H55 and have the rear mounts on my H bell housing.

Also you pointed out on my photo that tubular crossmember on my frame. When I was sandblasting/repairing the frame I saw that as well. I was not sure what that was. It did not interfere when I had the vehicle assembled when bought, I wonder if it will be a issue with the H55?

Rufus here is a picture of the IPOR skid plate on a frame, which also appears to have that same tubular cross member as mine :). So that IPOR skid plate works with my H55 with split case?

You can see how I used the skid plate to support an H55+toybox.

Your tubular cross member is different than the one in the photo you posted above. Yours has been cut and has bolt plates added to it. It is hard to tell from the angle of your photo if yours is the same dimension as stock. It could be an interference problem with the length of the H55 + the tcase mounted ebrake. It might not be a problem. If you had more than 100mm of clearance with the 4 speed then you should be fine with the H55.

Thanks for the info, by the way my H55 did not have a e-brake on it when I bought it, but my stock 4 speed did. Is this part modular from my 4 speed to my 5 speed?

I saw on that thread you did the ARB air locker, that is a great choice. I just bought 2 ARB air lockers and Yukon gear sets for my two FF axles on my HJ. I am going to hopefully be installing them this weekend. What air compressor/tank setup did you go with?

Once I get the axles/power train set in place on the frame I need to make a call to Tom Woods like you. I talked to him not to long ago and told him I would send over pictures and we can discuss the best route to take.

I think we are going for similar builds, I want a go anywhere camping/expedition/robust vehicle. I might pick your brain on a few things in the near future, if I can help you in anyway I will do whatever I can. I am feeling a time crunch to get this thing done for my summer expedition to Alaska.

Lastly I almost forgot are you doing a dual tank setup? If so what did you use?

My build thread is many years old. I'm slowly switching the engine from the H to a 3B. Putting a turbo on the H was a bad idea and that engine became junk. Not much progress lately since I'm building a house in Portland, ME.

I did a dual fuel tank setup. Built it myself. Actually had to build both tanks myself because the drivetrain was too long with the Toybox to retain the stock front tank.

For the air compressor I bought a larger Viair kit off of ebay. kinda like this setup I built a watertight steel box that mounts inside the fender on the right side of the truck in front of the rear tire. There's a ton of wasted space there in a 40 series Troopy. I cut an access hole for the box through the top of the inner fender. I mounted the compressor and some electrical bits in there. The 2.5 gallon air tank mounted in the same location on the left. The ARB under-hood compressor is good for the lockers but not so good for airing up tires. I also have used the compressor to pressurize a water tank for showering. I'm planning to add rear load leveling air bags someday too. My Troopy has a crazy lean to it now.
