Guys -

My driver seat in the '00 4Runner started wobbling so I checked the bolts. Turns out the channel that the front seat mounts bolt into has fatiqued and the captured nut closest to the door has pulled though the metal. Not sure what my options are except to pull up the carpet and have a new channel section welded into place.

Any ideas on how to attack this one? This is my daily driver and has to get fixed right now. Can anyone recommend a shop?

Thanks,

Jon

It needs to be a blind solution. I went out and bought a 3/8" toggle bolt (largest I could find) but will have to cut down the wings some (channel is too shallow as is). I picked a better grade bolt but the weak link is going to be the threaded toggle device.

I'm thinking for a more permanent fix I'll have to get someone to weld a captured nut to the backside of a metal plate (heavy sheetmetal) and then weld that over the channel.

for only a temp fix

hmm...maybe fill the hole w/ hi-strength epoxy w/ a huge sheet metal screw. or maybe fab up a bracket attached to the seat mounts and add a bunch of sheet metal screws through it attaching that to the floor.
Not really safe...but better maybe until you can get it welded in.

got any pix? Why must this be a blind solution? For shops I'd prob just look around in Manassas on Euclid.

At autobodytoolmart.com (an awesome site) there is a product line called "Lord Fusor". They make a metal-to-metal epoxy that I hear on good authority is unbelievable. It may be all you need in the long run. Obviously you won't get it tomorrow, but still worth a try once we get out of the sh1t weather.

I will be happy to weld it for you. With the Tig, it will be clean. But it will need to be after the snow has melted some since we are knee deep in snow and i have barely stared clearing the driveway. I would not use any epoxy or anything since it might pull out if you had a big impact.

also, post some pictures for us to see...

let me know.
