Hey Guys,

My name is Darren, and I'm from Calgary Alberta Canada. I'm going to be in San Diego from April the 5th to the 12th with the family, and am planning of checking out a few wheeling shops. I am hoping to pick up an Aussie Locker for my 1997 80 series.

Just a couple question... can you recommend a shop?
Does anyone know the part number by chance?
Do you guys get discounts anywhere?

Thanks for the help gang,

Any other advise is always appreciated!!

Thanks,

Aussie locker website shows you need this part number XD-21230
there are a couple of chain 4X shops down this way, not sure if they carry aussie locker or not.
Off Road Warehouse -
4 Wheel Parts
Another shop that deals with toyota is SD trux, Toyota Repair Home
Or you could try the link at the top of this section, it lists several cruiser related resources.

Good luck finding what you need and have fun on your trip.

Thanks for the help!!

Keep the suggestions coming.

Good places for dinner, wicked outlet shopping, hidden gems.... can't wait for the in and out burger!!

Aussie Locker only sells through their website so a local 4x4 shop will not have it. Here's a statement from their website.

Torq-Masters Technology, Inc, is able to bring you the incredible Aussie Locker at special competitive pricing because we sell direct to you, the end user. We use e-commerce to hold our costs down and pass the savings on to you. To enable us to continue to provide high quality products at substantial savings please contact us for additional information or assistance on our web site. We constantly monitor the web site and want to assure you that we will respond promptly to any concern or question you may have.

In n Out is good but check out Hoddad's in Ocean Beach for a true local burger joint experience.

Thanks again.

I will totally hit the burger joint...mmmmm burgers!!

I should also mention that I want to pick up a scangauge2 as well!

Can anyone suggest a good place to buy a scangauge? Also looking for accu-gauge easy deflator!

Thanks again,

hey darren,
Love Calgary- have family in up there and in Lethbridge.
So you just cant wait to spend those loonies ehh? - if you get a chance- ditch the shopping for a day and head out to Anza Borrego-get a park map at one of the off road shops and enjoy our local desert. You will not regret it.

Also- Tijuana is not worth the trip so dont go there you will be dissapointed.

Hope you have a good time in SD

Tim:steer:

Thanks TIm,

We are flying, won't be down for a drive till summer at the earliest!!

The loonies are almost at par, so your right.. can't wait to drop a bunch of them!!

Thanks for the travel advise, always looking for more!!

Darren

burger

If you need any quality dining experiences while in Town, PM me. In the mean -time. I have discovered a new favorite burger. My old favorite was Hodads' burger but it has changed...

Sneak Joint
3844 Mission Blvd
(between Seagirt Ct & Sunset Ct)
San Diego, CA 92109
(858) 488-8684
Sneak Joint - Sneak Joint

Some reviews have mentioned slow lousy service? Every time I have gone it's been great. Imagine Hooters with real food. I am talking about foodie food. The crowd and waitresses attire and location would suggest something like crappy pub food, but the food belongs in a Downtown restaurant with valet and a dress code. Best burger I have had yet in my life. Might get flamed but sorry thats my opinion.

BTW good luck with the aussie locker situation. I would recommend SDTrux as well...See what John suggests for your locker needs.

Awesome!! Thanks,!!

Still looking for a good recommendation for a place to buy the scangauge, and the accu-gauge easy deflator!

Keep the travel tips coming too!!

Thanks gang

Saw a scangauge II on eBay for $130 "Buy It Now" today. That's where I would get mine. There just isn't really a 4x4 shop that we go to around here. They all just sell Jeep or Sand Rail stuff or worse Rhino parts. But I am sure that if you offer to buy a round of Beers you will have a bunch of us in our Cruisers for you to look at! HAAHAH

Too Funny!

Just found a guy in Canada selling them for $165 shipped!!

Hi Darren,
Hope you have a great time down here and the weather stays nice for you.
I know of a shop here that does differential gears and lockers, and has a good reputation as far as I know. I had my rear diff in my 40 rebuilt there and am very happy with the work they did. They are maybe a little pricey, but for something like differential gears I don't mind spending a little more. The owner is a straight-shooter that doesn't mind taking the time to explain stuff clearly and offer good suggestion and BS. So if you have any questions or want to order something I recommend Pro Gear.
PRO GEAR DIFFERENTIALS - San Diego's Original Gear and Axle shop. Differential parts and repair.

For food one of my favorites is Phil's BBQ. Really good stuff there. Get the Beef ribs, not the Pork.
Phil's BBQ - the best barbecue restaurant and catering in San Diego

I like Off Road Warehouse too. They mostly just have mainstream Jeep and truck type parts, but the guys are helpful and pretty knowledgeable and they can order stuff too if you need it.

Have a great trip dude and enjoy your stay!
Brian.

Oh yea, the Scangauge II is pretty cool. I've had one about 6 months and am glad I bought it.

Sweet. Off Road Warehouse is 10 Min from my place!!

Weather has been great. Took the Family to the zoo today, spent the entire day there. Going to sea world tomorrow!!

Then to check out the shop!!

Darren

hmmm

So is it $wheel parts that has the bad rep then, I know one of those two places has had several complaints flied with the BBB, make sure.

HI Darren,

Not sure if we ever meet I am a good friend of Wayn's - Luxury imports used to be in Calgary. I own West Coast Cruisers here in San Diego. Look me up while you are in town, if you need a place to work on your rig you are welcome to use my shop.

Cheers,

Michael
