The other day my wife and I were getting ready for a trip to Amarillo TX. And we wanted to get a car wash before the trip to show off our “new” LC. I went to a car wash that I used before, no problem. Wrong! I just so happened that our LC jumped the track and went into the equipment and bent up the bumper. My wife was pissed, me? Okay. It’s only a bumper.
The manager comes out apologizing and telling me he is going to take care for it. The place he wanted to send me told me that it’s about $500 damage. I asked if that was a new bumper and she said no, a refurbished one.
I called the manager back and told him that I wanted to get the cash and buy something else. So he tells me to get 3 estimates and turn them in. I’ll get 3 that have new bumpers in the estimate.
I told my wife that now is the time to replace the bumper with the aftermarket one. She agrees and we are looking for a good bumper.
Is the ARB a good choice? Should I look at any thing else?
Thanks,
DMX

Just remember the bull bars are heavier than the Sahara Bars (meaning more droop unless you modify). My pictures are a Sahara Bar.

Oh, and under the same READERS RIDE 100 section there's a ARB bullbar for comparison on my buddy Doron's truck (he's the first pix, white w'safari rack). My truck with the Sahara bar is the last pix.

Whatever you get just make sure it is aluminum or you will need to beef up the suspension.

I agree. I'd go with a TJM aluminum.

Not that I know of. The TJM T-15 bar came with a steel winch mounting kit that attaches right to the frame. I would say the only drawback of the aluminum is the lack of recovery points.

So, the TJM on the Slee site is aluminum and the ARB is steel? Is the aluminum strong enough to take the occasional jumping off the track at the car wash?

lc wagons in car washes

When my 80 was stock it jumped the track in a car wash. No damage was done, but it scared me, as I had just gotten it. I started honking my horn and they stopped it. They then told me that it was because I steered off of the track. That really made me mad. Then they said it was because of my oversized offroad tires (stock Mich. ltx). I just don't go through anymore.

I could be wrong, but when I was looking for a bar, I thought ARB didn't make an alumnium one, only TJM. And I think it could withstand a carwash mishap. The first day I had it on, an impolite cabbie pulled away from the curb into the passenger side of the bar and it had no major damage other than the side piece slightly pushed in. The cab however didn't fair so well with a completely crushed passenger door.

Cool! Some of those guys think there the only one’s on the road.
So are you happy with the aluminum TJM?

The carwashes here in Albuquerque all require you to get out of the vehicle so they can loot anything valuable. So it is entirely there fault.

I'm very happy with it except for the lack of recovery points. It's also starting to oxidize a little bit so it's not so brand new shiny looking anymore, which is good. I have a Warn 9000 winch.

Nice.
