Need a new 80 Series Windshield (1 Viewer)

I just had one put in by Safelite. They did a great job and they glued it with proper material. It no longer moves and squeeks in the hole. That didn't sound right....

Old Volvos are known for windshield leaking as well. I had my 1976 240 (with a leaking windshield shut down in the middle of snow storm near Breckinridge, in the middle of a 4 lane. So, you say what do I do? A semi could come out of nowhere while I'm pushing and crush me against my car or I can walk off the side of the road and get sued for gross negligence.... I don't take chances on leaking windshields anymore, ever.

Safelite uses Chinese made glass. Just FYI
I just had some chips repaired yesterday by them and they said if I do end up needing a new one that they would let me bring the glass in if I wanted to use a Toyota part. They also said they would look at the FSM instructions if I brought those too, since it's apparently kinda tricky to get the 80 glass to seal properly. That is the route I would probably go if need be.

EDIT: As a side note, the Safelite warranty on the chip repairs is pretty good. If the crack they fixed spreads, they will install a new windshield on their dime. You could still bring the glass and they would credit you their cost for the China made one they would use. Not bad.

Is there such a thing as actual Made in USA glass?

A P Tech glass from Safelite with a DOT code 1005 on it is made in Enfield, NC. According to the research I have done. Some other A P Tech glass with other codes appears to be made in China.

I don't know anymore. My 68 Camaro needed new glass. All US made. But that was such a long time ago.

Yes, I used to haul it on a double drop, used for anything from automotive to architectural. Plants all across the US. They may not make the glass for our application, but US glass does exist.

Cardinal glass out of Madison, WI has one of the few glass factories still going big. They don't do as much as they used to in Madison anymore, but they are in the top three for glass in buildings, at least they were.

Cool fact. So the reason that the window style that is called Colonial is a bunch of small pieces of glass mounted to a bunch of mullions, or cross pieces is because the king wouldn't allow glass to be made in the colonies and the only way to provide glass windows for their homes was to ship small pieces across the pond and then assemble them into sashes.

Just because something is Chinese doesn't necessarily mean it's made cheap. They can produce to whatever specs you give them.

Maybe in time ill be sorry but I got a lifetime warranty so I'm good.

Not sure how much you're willing to spend on glass but when that pole hit my truck and I replaced the glass, a new Lexus windshield was $1100. There were 2 in the US. The first one I ordered arrived cracked....

As much as we all love OEM, we might have to start accepting other options and just figure out which of the available options are best.
