The only thing that scares me is the HD generator. I was at an electrical repair/supply shop last year and we were talking generators.

She said they have a complete back room filled with them to be repaired under warranty. Since the customer did not buy the generator at their store the attitude is "we will get to them when we get to them".

I guess it's a coin toss if they work or not. The problem is quick turn around for repair.

Agreed. Generac is a decent brand, they make their own engines here in the US, but still...

Honda GX (not GV) are the preferred motors for continous use applications where gasoline is the available fuel. I think diesel would be nice but honestly don't know what the cost benefit analysis is in many situations...

We lost power for about a month and bought a cheap $500 5500 watt unit from PepBoys next door. The first unit was DOA and the second ran perfectly for 12 hours a day for a month. Although it was louder than heck, but we just stick it out bak behind the shop and close the door. The generator was well worth the $500.

I have a big honda that we run during storm season. I have run it for hours at a time with no issues, but ideally you want a brushless motor with the longest cycle time/percentages you can find. Also you can make a pigtail with a dryer plug and back feed thru the dryer outlet. I installed transfer switches on both houses but the dryer feed works best........*

*I'm not an electrician, it's just commonly done here.

Honda,Yamaha, bigger the better, electric start, pull start back -up,if its also a welder the better. Mike

That crossed my mind, but it says he's in Baltimore. Doubt there are many wells still active in Baltimore, I feel like you'd be pulling more oil, gas, and other chemicals out of the ground than water ;p

No, I'm suburban/exurban (rural) to the city. And actually the ground is probably more poluted out here than in the city because all the farmers had underground fuel storage (now leaking) and also buried or burned their own trash and animal waste:hillbilly:.
