Yes the dvd changer plays movies while in park and the hack will allow you to play movies while driving.

it works perfectly on my truck. buy my truck was a 6 month demo for a toyota executive. i got it after the exec. custom painted the bumpers and side molding to match, and with the dvd hack already done. it had 3500 miles on it and was 6months old. dealer listed the msrp with the custom paint at 66,000 and was asking like 57,000. but i know the manger at the dealer and got it for 46500. Just wish i jumped on the all black exec. demo they had.

it had front windows tinted, 20 inch rims ( not that i want theM), and the TRD supercharger already installed. I was too late. i was trying to convince myself i needed to turn in my 98 for my 03. i took a month debating, and missed the black supercharged one. i still kick myself in the ass for not jumping on that one.

Just triple checking everything I have been reading.... This has been a successful mod on the 04 LC ??

OK weird. Gonna need some help. Whenever i touch the red/white wire to a ground when parked the screen comes on but no video. Otherwise there is no screen at all! But I can hear sound. WTF?

I also just installed the SL2Vi if that makes a difference. Figured I would only open up the dash one time. Or maybe not...should I just splice everything back together? HELP!!

Looking for some real time help on the DVD hack for my 2003 LC. I have located the correct wiring harness and the obvious red/white ground wire. But I'll be damned if I can tell which is the "violet" wire for the speed sensor. I've ruled out the two wires on the right as those are the "pink" and blue wires slightly intertwined. And green does not equal violet so I'm down to 4 possible suspects that all look sorta tan colored with various stripes. I don't like the 25% odds of guessing right so any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

OK, I'm really looking for some help here. Did the DVD hack today and it took 15 minutes of work and 4 hours of agonizing. Didn't work.

I snipped and grounded the red and white ground wire. I know I got this one right because it is simple and because the brake warning light is now on all the time in the dashboard cluster.

I snipped the tan/brown looking wire behind and to the right of the red/white wire in the photo in the previous post. I really don't see any "violet" wires.

Now the DVD player recognizes a DVD, but will not display any picture - even when not moving.

I'm not sure if this is because I snipped the wrong wire, or if something got messed when the Peripheral iPod cable was installed yesterday.

Any advice or guidance is most appreciated. First off, did I cut the wrong wire?

Bump. Anyone??

Once you snip the red/white wire, ground the end coming from the nav unit's connector...sounds like you grounded the end connected to the brake line switch. The the other side of the red/white wire needs to be taped so it won't cause any shorts, especially to ground.

Can't help on the speed control wire, other than to say I only have color code for an '01 lx.

I'd call the wire directly in back of the solid-blue wire in your picture the "violet" wire you need to cut.

Otoh, mine is an '01 LX, not sure your wiring colors are identical to mine. Anyway, once the violet wire is cut, insulate both cut ends...Given that the unit sees a dvd but won't show video, sounds like perhaps you snipped the video input instead of the vehicle speed sensor input.

Let us know when she works.

Steve:

Thanks for the help, it's much appreciated - you're absolutely correct on the ground wire and that will be an easy fix. I'll just need to splice the ground wire end on the nav unit connector since I clipped it a few inches from that end to give me room on the other end.

The reason I did not clip the wire directly behind the blue wire was that those two wires were lightly intertwined and all the blogs comments I read on here and the Lexus forum said the wire lightly intertwined with the blue wire was NOT the correct violet wire. Three of the other four possible wires all have a colored vertical stripe (two black and one blue), so I picked the wire without the vertical stripe.

For lack of a better plan, I will fix the ground wire and splice together the "violet" wire and see if the video works while not in motion. If it still doesn't work, then something with the Peripheral iPod adapter is messing with the video (although that seems unlikely). If it works, then I clipped the wrong wire - but I will still be left with three possible choices.

Let us know how it goes. To all that have done this mod, does the brake light in the dash stay on all the time or will the light go off when the parking brake is disengaged. I want to do the mod but it would annoy the crap out of me to see the brake light on while Im driving. Thanks.

As hankinid pointed out, I grounded the wrong end of the brake ground wire. If you ground the end coming from the back of the nav unit, the brake light will not be lit. I grounded the other end.

Still not sure which "violet" wire to cut.

Did you patch the "violet" wire that you cut. Does it work as it did before you cut anything? Good luck.

Not yet. Hoping to get to it this weekend.

NCYooper,
I just did it on my '03 and it is the "violet" wire (I call it pink) directly behind the red/white wire in your picture. You said that you snipped this one and it didn't work but I tried the wire behind the blue one and that made my screen go blank so I had to solder it back together. Unless ours are different I think you cut the right wire.

Thanks, BorderCruiser! You were correct - I did cut the right wire the first time. Went back in this evening and grounded the proper end of the e-brake ground wire (the end coming from the back of the nav unit) and then rejoined the "violet" or pink wire I initially cut. I wanted to confirm that the DVD unit still worked after the Peripheral iPod adapter was installed. Everything checked out, so I went back and recut the original "violet" wire and the DVD hack works as advertised. The only thing missing in all the directions I read here and on the Lexus website was which end of the e-brake wire to ground.
