Well, I'm diving into the deconstruction of this beautiful old thing. Ready to start pulling off the body parts tomorrow. But when clearing off the firewall/footwell area, I found four mystery holes above and to the right of the accelerator pedal. Picture attached. The accelerator on this one looks to be from a VW so I imagine the top left one is part of the old pedal, but the big one in the center and the two to the right are a mystery to me, a novice. All these holes had bolts in them but nothing attached to them. I see them in a picture I found of another restoration- the big one has the big black grommet like mine did.

Thanks for any info. And this is really fun- such a simple beast. I'm bagging and photographing everything- but I still pray I can figure it out in a year when it's time to reassemble!

The original pedal used a series of linkages, which were supported by brackets. The small holes are where the linkage brackets attached. The large one is where one of the pivoting rods passed thru from cab to engine.

Best.

Great, thanks Mark. I'm probably going to try and replace the Weber with an original carb- was there any great problem with the original pedal? This one works really well, but I'm aiming for as much original as possible.

Look up Rube Goldberg.

The parts diagrams at SOR are always good references, Brian.

When you say that the old accelerator was from a VW, is it possible that it just has a rubber VW pad on it? I have a VW pad on at least one of my 40s. I don't care that it says VW or MV on it, as long as my foot is not slipping off the pedal. :D

...and if you want to have nightmares, memorize that diagram!
