I got my new disc rotors yesterday, so I decided to get the rum and Coke, and the tools ready. This morning I took the mission of replacing the brakes (all 4 wheels) on "El Tractor Dos". As soon as I removed the tires,:eek::eek: I knew is was not going to be a "simple" job. I saw the old rotors pitted, one rear shock busted. Then the fun began,:bang: I found those funky cone washers were frozen, they are coming out with the help of a propane torch, that put me behind schedule couple of hours. I have to change plans and probably end up doing a full birf job. At least the rear drums are fine, except one shock, which will stay busted until I get some $$ to get the OME lift kit. More info tomorrow, too :censor: with the PO for such a poor maintenance. As of right now, 8:00 PM Eastern time, I have only removed one disc, found, of course that the grease on the wheel bearings looks from 1992 also. Quit for today, tomorrow I will find out how's the other wheel looks.

Ouch. Good luck Jose! :)

Dont' forget step 6 and refill as needed

dude! these are "los wimpos" jack stands eh? I hope you're not spending any time under there...

Finished today, found out that those cone washers cost, at least at the Stealership $16.00 for five!!! Wheel seals $7.00 each, not bad. After spending one hour bleeding brakes, the final outcome was good. :grinpimp:

Dig the red :bounce:

Did you also hit some more under there with black? Looks super glossy and good.

Duplicolor red Caliper paint, and Krylon glossy black.

Jose,
I am in the middle of doing a brake job on my 80 also. Looks like I ordered the same vented and cross drilled rotors as you. Let us know how you like the new rotors.

I have my other Cruiser with a set of these, and so far I'm happy with them. I got them recommended by a co-worker that uses those in his Subaru WRX, so I imagine they must be good.

Jose - which rotors did you end up using? From where?

Bump for update?

how are these rotors and pads holding up?

I am getting the coin together to pull the trigger on the same rotors and wondering if there are any problems going to the 100 series pads in combination. (mine is a '93) a little searching did not get much info there, anyone got help or thoughts?

After 9 months in mine and 10 on my daughter's brake rotors still working as expected. They probably workk fine with the 100 pads. Now I have come with the idea to convert the rear drums into disc. I know that some of you will tell me that is easier to swap the axle from a FJZ, but those are very hard to get here not to mention ship them from the USA $$$$ Any ideas on what disc/ caliper I can "transplant"?:hmm:

Good job on the brakes and thanks for the info!
