FJ40 - stabilizers.JPG

My '74 appears to have 2 steering stabilizers. Is this normal? One (if I'm looking at the pic I took correctly) is attached to the frame and the steering centering box and the other u-bolted to the tie rod and the other end to a bracket off the diff maybe.... Just curious because I want to tighten up the steering and will rebuild the centering arm box, replace the tie rod ends, and replace the stabilizer(s). Just want to order the right stabilizers.

TIA!

Pics if possible.
The one attached to frame sounds like the OEM one.
The other is aftermarket.
Touted as being needed back in the day for larger tires.
Good OEM stabilizer and steering box will be all you need for a relatively stock FJ40.

Figured as much. I'm going to remove it with the refresh. I'm only on 31x10.5 tires with no plans for a lift. I'll still try and post a pic when I'm home from work.

I had the same. Actually took both off and didnt reinstall the factory one (vendor sent the wrong size) and it drives the same. Will probably install the factory one when the correct size arrives. Going to taller skinnier tires next week.
