I picked up some aluminum wheels from a guy cheep, they had a cool pattern, but had HORRIBLE Brake Grime all over them.. I tried scrubbing, and chemicals, but nothing was working..

I read a thread on pirate where a guy had his wheels beadblasted and they looked good.. A Cruiser buddy Beadblasted them for me, then i shot them with a coat of clear, They turned out great! i guess i could have polished them first, but i kindof like the dull look..

now i gota find some 37" tires to wrap around them

I hope your clear sticks. I blasted a valve cover and "cleared it" with urethane clearcoat and it peeled off in sheets. Maybe the aluminum alloy is different with wheels.

Me 2 :) i used duplicolor wheel paint so i think it should work good.. Valve cover see ALOT of heat, so maybe that was the issue

Thx, i was suprised how good they look.. Photos dont do it justice..

I like those wheels.

However, spray clearing over unfinished metal is not a good idea. In most cases, you'll experience pealing because clear needs the chemical bond of paint.

Powder coaters have a clear that will bond to bare metal.

Most manufactures of unfinished metal products for auto applications suggest not using a "spray clear" on the bare metal becasue of the propensity to peal.

Late.

Powder coating after the beadblasting would last much longer. The rims are very cool. What is the back spacing on them?

Those are nice. Are the center holes big enough to clear your hubs? I've ran into that problem already. Damn 1/2 ton Chevy trucks with little girl hubs.

and for tires?

Not sure yet.. I usually end up with a set of Used Whatever i can find at the time cheep.. Id love some 37" mtrs, my roomate has some 36" iroks im thinking about, and another buddy wants to cut me a deal on some 39.5" iroks ;p

Id really like to get some of those Pit Bull Rockers.. 37/13.5.. but i already spent all my money on welders, and steel :D

Already Checked that good point!

Pardon my ignert qweshun, but are FJ40 bolt patterns the same as Chebbie 6-lug half tonners?

Yes, the bolt pattern is the same. But Chevy factory wheels and some aftermarket wheels have a lip inside the center hole. This will only allow clearance of a 3-1/2" hub.

You can grind/lathe it out of a steel wheel. I'm not sure you can do it to an aluminum wheel safely.
