So, I just spent 300+ hours building my dream truck: FJ55, 2UZ, 5 speed manual, dual mini truck cases, FJ80 chassis swap, 55 gallon tank, elockers, 35”s, AC. It is awesome and fun and a hooligan truck and looks cool and cruises at 80mph can go anywhere and all that stuff...

BUT, after putting over 5,000 miles on a FJ55 in 3 months, including a 2,080 cross county trip in my red ‘69, I decided I needed something a little modern to take the fam on long trips in. No matter how nice the blue ‘73 is, no matter how much sound proofing, it’s still old, with hollow doors, above 65mph you can’t talk with your passengers.

SO, I decided to sell out and do a mild build on a 100/470. I love love the 2UZ. Want a 2 week out West road trip, CO exploring, drive to AK kind of rig with the fam.

Looking on auto trader, Craigslist, and FaceBook marketplace for a six weeks, I see a ‘04 with 143k at a dealership for a fair price. The pics are crappy and I can see they haven’t cleaned it up at all. I look on the website and it’s not there. Call the salesman and he says it was just traded in that morning and it’s being cleaned up, new tires, etc. I tell him to stop all that mess and get some better pics.

He calls back an hour later and says they can’t sell it?? He says the “adjustable suspension control” is broken. It’s a $4,000 repair and they are going to send it auction... I’m like “hey hey hey, I’ll buy it”.... “what?”.. “yeah, I’m going to remove it and put a lift on anyway”....

Well, they do the stupid dealer thing where they have to call back and forth and all that crap. It and the stupid “doc fee” piss me off so bad I decide to wait on a ‘06-07 with the VVTi.

Well three days pass and it’s off FB and still not on the website. I text the salesman and he says they really are sending it to auction and I was the only person who had time to call.

The carfax shows two owners. Looks like to me it’s being driven as a winter house truck in Pensacola only 6-7k miles a year. Has that old lady feel to it.

I get more pics and the VSC TRAC, VSC OFF, and VRGS lights are on! This pisses me off this is the first time it’s mentioned, but I use it and finally get the priced dropped and we make a deal

Go pick it up with the ole work truck Tundra and drag her home.

I was considering selling the Tundra and getting a well used 200 to build, but I just use it too much as a truck, can build a 100, and my middle son may take the Tundra in two years anyway.

Play with for a while at home. It’s basically a AWD couch!

There is no power to anything when the key is off? Nothing. Start playing with fuses and replace a blown 10amp. Power is restored! And the VSV lights are off! Sweet!

Unplug the battery for 10min. Hook her back up... the VGRS has reset! Basically I am mechanic of the year... saved me $2k at the dealership for a $0.10 fuse and 10 minutes.

The real question what are you doing with the fj55? I think I’ve been following you on Instagram and would love to get my hands on it! Ha ha

It’s probably @cruiserjunktion s pig you’ve seen on IG. His is actually for sale and inspired my build. His is also blue and has a similar drive train.

I want to keep mine. It has its purpose. The 55 is just an adventure to drive. I want the 470 to take us awesome places.

My first rig was a fj55 want another one but I want the reliability of my 470! I’ll have to look into his. Thanks

My 55 build (and chit chat)

Deo’s for sale. Really cool truck!

$10 says the "$4k" AHC is actually a set of globes, available for $700.

Good choice, great looking rig!

Or a few free turns on the torsion bars...

Nice fleet of trucks! Looking forward to watching this one evolve.

That’s a RW Tundra? I’m curious, what size spare does it use?

255/70r18

I’ll keep the worn ones off the truck to replace my spare and maybe to use on my Offroad camper build...

2020 is still a s*** year, but a few good things have happened after years of hard work. If I was smart, I’d sell it all and have one nice truck!

Have you been talking to my wife? I've heard that phrase before...
