Went last night and picked up my new 40. Drove it home the hour and a half drive. No major problems really. Minor things like heat flowing out of the torn shifter boot, dim cluster lights, lackluster brakes and she tended to wander(loose steering). Title says 1976, manufacture date is September 1975. Who wants pics?

Looks real purty; is it Mustard? I've always liked that color on a Cruiser.

At least the weather stripping is zip tied to the rust !! And some nice added brake lights.

So I've read a ton here but still feel a bit overwhelmed. Not exactly sure at this point what I want to do. Any opinions or criticisms are welcome. Thanks!

Nice truck! I would start with driveline stuff and worry about rust/body later.

Get a manual and do basic stuff like a full grease job, brake adjust (rear), oil change, spark plugs and tune up, set up the carb (get the carb/emission manual for your year from SOR). Full inspection of frame and springs. Inspect all 4 brake linings and be sure your brake booster isn't leaking. Rebuild or adjust the steering arm (to get rid of slop). Do a compression test. Powerwash the engine and frame (you will get dirty) to reveal cracks or rust. Start reversing the PO's mods - like those nasty high-mounted taillights. Start inventorying the missing parts and mods/repairs you want to do.

Get it driveable and bomb around in it some - have some fun. Scratch the old paint job on some nearby trails. After the drivetrain is solid, then consider bodywork, if you want to do that kind of restoration.

I am no expert but from the spare tire carrier it is a 75. Congrats on a good looking mustard 40. Enjoy the adventure.

Anyone have any idea what the 110v outlet looking thing in the glove box might be?

I think it's for the light that used to come with the 40's. A small bulb you could plug in

Nice! It looks like the jump seats are from a 1978 or later? I don't think the 75 or 76 models have the metal support rod under the seat. I could be wrong.

Get your FSM... fix it as it needs it and drive it!
