Bought a Husky 10 back in January. I couldn't afford a winch bumper so I decided to have portable system made. Instead of one male receiver,I decided to make it using two welded on each frame horn.. Figured this might help with side pulls. It also fits in my tool box. It isn't light but I can handle it by myself.

Here's a pic from the front

Another close up where we added bars between the hitches for strength.

I don't know much about winching but that mount doesn't look very strong. Hopefully others will weigh in on this matter.

What I do know is that Husky is a kick ass winch. It will pull, pull, and pull. Thankfully it's not fast as that could stress the mount. I do suspect though that someone could fab up an integrated bumper/winch mount for your Cheby probably easily.

There are several supports welded all around.I just couldn't get the camera right to get more underside pics. The guy who welded it said it would rip the truck apart before it gave.

I rarely use a winch but I did get a call a couple weeks ago where a buddy was stuck. He was at their deer land checking property. He went down a trail and got stuck sideways so the trail was blocked. I winched him sideways til he straightened up then out.

Looks good to me. So long as the two receivers on the frame are good, I just hope you spread the load down the frame a bit, and not too close to the frame ends. Good job!

Hi All,

The mount idea seems good to me, though quality welding to the vehicle frame is the important issue.

The Superwinch Husky is a serious worm-drive electric winch, so make sure that mount is secure!! :D

On a side note, where is your Land Cruiser? :grinpimp:

Regards,

Alan

Glad to hear the mount is tough enough for your kick ass winch. Keep on trucking!

Thanks, the hitches themselves arent welded on the frame horns. There is a metal plate welded across the frame and the hitches welded to that. I just spaced them to be welded to the plate directly under the frame horns. Then supports are welded on the sides in several places. Also welded 2 bars connecting the hitches.

The welder builds and welds trailers all day. Been doing it several years so thats why i had him do it. I have 400.00 in all of it. Winch, labor and materials.

Looks OK to me if the truck mount is solid.

I have mine on a single front receiver setup. It's on a custom front hitch that is very similar to a rear receiver in design and attachment. Never had a strength concern.

One thing I would highly recommend is a pair of heavy duty jumper cables. I have a set for mine that uses the same plug. That way I can jump or be jumped without opening the hood. And, they are 2guage wire, which works OK for running the winch. Since the cable ends are interchangeable I can put the winch on the rear hitch and run the jumpers up to the battery to power it back there - although that does require opening the hood. Makes a pretty versatile setup.

I have the same wich and am thinking of a way to do the same thing. the mounting plate is a girder  look's heavy!

i gotta say i think the plate section looks strong as hell. Is there plate on top of the girder too?
kind of an awkward design to the husky, the motor sits lower than the mounting plate

im trying to think of a way to make it as light as possible, while still being strong enough. the winch is a heavy thing to lift, so im thinking of a minimalist plate and bracing.

sorry dont mean to criticize, well done, good stuff, glad to see others doing what im thinking.

has anyone any notion what type of oil is safe to put into the spur gearbox? im in Ireland and it'll be a pain in the neck getting the official stuff transported here.

It's pretty heavy. No way to go light with these and be portable. I'd say the winch mounted on the plate is 150lbs. There are pieces of solid bar stock that are under the winch to allow the motor and ground wire to clear on that side.
