When I first started the door lock repair I had used a set of motors that didn’t have the collar. I used info off a Lexus club forum to transfer the collar over but this required a little more work as the new motor shaft didn’t have a step down. Long story short I made a hybrid motor of the new and old motor to make it work. It was during this first tear down I noticed the original adhesive looked strangely like liquid electrical tape. So, I tried it with no problems of it coming apart. The real trouble with this first repair was the motor operated backwards of the other locks.
So, I looked for more motors and found the OEM equivalent ones on eBay. I ordered and 5 days later they arrived. When I split the case open it was just like the first time. So, changed the motor and well...you can read above to see what happened. Tonight reinstalled the motor and time will tell. I cleaned the groove real well this time. I like the idea of the liquid electrical tape if it works as the case can be opened up time and time again without damage.
