When I first started the door lock repair I had used a set of motors that didn’t have the collar. I used info off a Lexus club forum to transfer the collar over but this required a little more work as the new motor shaft didn’t have a step down. Long story short I made a hybrid motor of the new and old motor to make it work. It was during this first tear down I noticed the original adhesive looked strangely like liquid electrical tape. So, I tried it with no problems of it coming apart. The real trouble with this first repair was the motor operated backwards of the other locks.

So, I looked for more motors and found the OEM equivalent ones on eBay. I ordered and 5 days later they arrived. When I split the case open it was just like the first time. So, changed the motor and well...you can read above to see what happened. Tonight reinstalled the motor and time will tell. I cleaned the groove real well this time. I like the idea of the liquid electrical tape if it works as the case can be opened up time and time again without damage.

A couple of weekends ago started my bullbar install. One of my little master mechanics helped pull the front bumper. This required removing bumper cover bolts at the bottom of the bumper, screws at the fender and some push in plastic clips by the DRLs. Then, remove the styrofoam cover over the aluminum bar.

Once the styrofoam is off, this reveals the mounting bolts for the aluminum bar. Remove all 4 followed by the tow hooks. We found the tow hooks needed a little encouragement to come off.

Touched up a little paint from the original bumper. Then, we installed the winch mount.

No cutting of the frame was required as I had heard. Some buddies from the club came over and the bumper was on. Realigned the bumper and grill last night. They both had to compromise to get along. Plastidipped the grill. Very pleased with the look.

Adjusted the AHC. Turned up the torsion bars 6 turns. The truck rides and handles so much better.

Picked up a full length ARB sport rack and 100 series 3 leg mount kit. Removed the factory roof rack & discovered the rack does not line up. Not sure if this is a 470 thing. So, back to the drawing board on this.

Below you can see the tools I used to pop the OEM rack covers off that have 4 tabs holding them and 2, 8mm bolts underneath each one for mounting.

If you get your new rack mounted and figured out, and no longer want the rear plastic covers, PLEASE let me know. Hell, I'd even purchase your factory crossbars since the PO destroyed both of mine.

Nice work on the bullbar, looks fantastic!

Also-nice job on the door locks. I have the motors, just need to tear my door panel apart (again) and order new speaker foam (again..I'm a moron).

I’m watching my passenger back door lock as it’s giving hints of a possible issue.
nice. I plan on tackling my speaker rebuild next weekend. thanks for the fabric.com link...my speaker mesh are all jacked up.
I think you will be real pleased with the fabric.

I might be the only to ask, but who makes that steering-wheel cover?

Thanks!

Finished up the speaker rebuild, speaker grille upholstery, door lock repair and window channel silicone project today. I’ve found the rear passenger side door grill takes the biggest beating from kids getting in and out but everything looks so much better now and the sound system is not that bad.View attachment 1957708View attachment 1957712View attachment 1957713View attachment 1957714
Which kit did you get from simply speakers that came with all of the replacements?

We found it at Autozone. It might be a Bell. Every time I see it I think it is so rad.

I emailed them directly with my year, make, and model and they sent me the kit.

It really brings the system back to life.

A little update today. My wife says she thinks it's running better. I thought the same thing. It's just smoother and seems quieter.

Picked up some parts: Heater T’s, seat belt clips, seat back clips, and a hub ornament. I decided to go with the plastic T’s at this point since the hoses are in good enough shape to reuse. My drivers seat back holder is coming loose at the bottom and one of the hub ornaments didn’t match quite rite so I may use it on my spare once my new bumper is installed. So, some good projects for the kids again.

Another important item I decided to do prior to HIH9:
DIY: Replacing heater hose pipe T's *important*
Drivers side heater T:

In replacing my heater T's I discovered both upper throttle body hoses had a pinhole seep. Not enough to cause any huge leak at this time but obviously something that needs attention. Not in stock locally at the yota dealer so curious if anyone has used universal hose. The small one with the small bend looks hard to replace with universal hose.
