Some more goodies for the 80 came in: Underdrive high range gears, a tie rod set, and a set of rear ujoints that we’re dropped off last Friday with the driveshaft core. Somehow the pic of the Matsuba Ujoints disappeared. Thanks Overland Cruisers and Cruiser Outfitters!

Picked up some flow matched modern 12 hole denso injectors for the engine.

Are these drop in, or do you need spacers? Link?

Nice work you have going on this for sure.

I stumbled on the injectors on eBay. Plug and play fit. When I built my Isuzu Trooper I upgraded the injectors and found the engine much more pleasurable to drive. It seemed like the ecu technology of the day was a lot better than the injector technology of the day. New injectors made it run so much better. So, going to try it on the 80.

Sold the 265 all terrain tires that came with the rig when I bought it. Now I’m looking at options for cleaning up and painting the rims as well as some 315 tires.

Picked up the rear driveshaft with Matsuba Ujoints and balanced.

More parts for the 80! Seals, gaskets, and a bearing for the transfer case, spark plug wire retainers, and a positive battery terminal cover. Thanks partsouq!

Had front driveshaft reworked with new OEM u-joints, straightened, and balanced by Driveline Express. They do fantastic work. Looking for a good rear core before I have the rear one completely overhauled.View attachment 1745866

Just looked back at your pictures. The front shaft is phased incorrectly. It will also need to be rebalanced and the ujoints checked for correct zerk orientation after you reposition the slip yoke.

Good catch. I was not aware of this peculiarity with the difference between the front and rear shaft in the beginning. After the shaft was done I asked the shop about it and they said to bring it back if I have any issues. They straightened and balanced it in this phase. Anyone have any problems with a shaft being balanced this way? The rear are manufactured this way which makes me wonder if there were 2 different Toyota suppliers or if there is a logic to this.

Thanks for the tip. I’m still a little perplexed that matching the front shaft phase to the rear shaft phase and having it balanced would cause a problem with one shaft and not the other but I do know Mr. T had a reason. Maybe it is because the front shaft is shorter. This was my mistake when I pulled the drivetrain out and never had worked with a Japanese driveshaft phased this way from the factory. I’m sure they’ll be happy to correct.

And more parts. Rear tailgate hinges as mine came mangled, new front bumpstops to beef up the front end as US models didn’t get them on the frame, and a new trailer wiring harness to clean up the 3M taps.

The rear tailgate has always been really tight to open and close. Looking it over I discovered the hinges were not only mangled but the mounting points on the tailgate were twisted. Tailgate is original and there are no signs of a collision or repaint on it. I ordered some new hinges and installed a long bolt I had in the bin where I could put a socket and long extension on to align. Results turned out perfect! Tailgate works like new again!

Front bumpstops installed. Long one goes on the drivers side and shorter one by the differential where the axle sits higher.

Removed what was left of a brake controller setup to install the new trailer wiring harness.

Was going to put heat shrink over the wire where the 3M taps were but realized the size I would need would be so big to go over the terminals it wouldn’t shrink down tight enough. So, I’m planning on picking up liquid electrical tape instead to repair.

The new plug and play trailer harness was supposed to be a quick clean install, but I discovered corrosion on the 3 prong terminal and a broken wire.

Does anyone know the part number for the 3 terminal housing as well as part numbers for the terminals?

Ordered the housing and will be repairing the factory harness to OEM spec.

Picked up an oil pressure sending unit. Decided to try a different brand since I’ve had multiple issues with the factory ones. (Kind of like my experience with power steering pressure hoses)
