I need to find a 60 series dizzy to replace it.

Ok, I referred back to trappers pics, on page 10, but I am having trouble following a couple of the vac lines, and want to make sure mine are hooked up right. Pretty sure that I have the drivers side right at this point, but not so sure about the distributor side. Anybody have a really clear picture of where everything is going from that side? I'll try to post up pics of mine later to see if anybody sees anything wrong, but was trying to wait until I got pretty shiny new vac hoses.

Ok. After several times reading this & looking @ all the pictures. I came to realize that the P.O. took off way more stuff than he needed to. However using what I had left & following all the advice as best I could, I was able to gain smoother idle, better acceleration and just over all far better runability than I had before.

So fear not those of you who had a hack de-smog done by others.....this thread can still help you. All you need is some common sense, a framing square, a slide rule, an abicus, some tylenol, a few head scratches, an avid vocabulary of swear words & a six pack. An exhaust hose for the garage wouldn't hurt either.

Thanx to all the contributors to this site. It was a big help in getting my 60 running closer to running the way it should be running.

You aren't deleting your HAC though are you? I wonder how many differences that actually entails...

If you need me to take different shots I will.

Trapper- It's kind of hard to tell from the pics. Where do you have the primary and secondary advance hoses going?

TIA-

Primary vacuum is to the inside (towards valve cover) of the carb (middle low port/2nd from left) and secondary vacuum is to atmosphere (top of aircleaner 3 prong above carb)

we just replicated this desmog on a buddies 87 and its running great.

Cool, this is how mine is set up as well (although routed a little differently). Your setup looks very clean. I never removed the hard piping vacuum manifold thing when I did my desmog. I'm going to redo it and throw that thing away.

Drove mine some yesterday. It had a slight hesitation so had a buddy check timing and it was retarded so we bumped it up to 7degrees and there was still a hesitation so backed it off to about 4 degrees i would say and she runs pretty good. I would imagine after the carb rebuild it will really run good.

I figured out my hesitation/miss. The idea poped in my head at 3am i guess while dreaming I pulled out my wiring diagram and figured out my fuel cut switch needed a ground. since i removed the bracket it was on i had just ziptied it up but i ran a ground wire to it and sure enough that was it.

Damn, that might be my problem as well. Why didn't I think of that???

Thanks buddy!:cheers::cheers:

if you have a slight hesitation or like a mis while just crusing then i would say that is it. I have been driving mine like that for a month and even took it wheeling. kinda frustrating while putting along and its acting funny.

Yeah, that's exactly what it feels like. It only happens occasionally though so I didn't think much of it. I've put on 10k miles since my desmog and it's been doing that the whole time! I am going to figure that out this week.

Well, I guess its time to start takin' notes.. just pulled apart a project 60 and can't bring myself to reinstalling a bunch of expensive-to-replace junk... Thanks for all the info- of course I didn't read it all yet!

I am in the process of studying this entire thread and learning the respective diagrams. I started tearing into this tonight. Anyone have advice for getting off the air rail fitting closest to the firewall? I can't seem to get a stubby or standard 17mm back in there, even with everything out of the way.

this is a very inspiring thread. i'm about to turn to the dark side....

Use a sharp chisel to shear off the rusty tube right on top of the nut.
Then put a 17mm short socket on there w/ a long flex ratchet.
Break the nut off the top of the fitting.
Put a 17mm mid socket on the fitting in the head w/ long flex ratchet and wrench it out of there.

Install allen plug.

Ok so I got a fully smogged parts truck & I'm startin this over again...So many diagrams, so many pictures, so much advice. Must have Tylenol (or the CVS equivalent)

This stuff is so much fun....I love my Cruiser.

i've read through this whole thread and i can't find the reason why the dizzy needs to be re-curved?

i finally started my desmog- removed the cat and de-vaning the smog pump tonight
