Looks great!
Thanks!

Hey all

I've put about 600 miles on the truck since installing the water pump and power steering pump. No issues with either.

Now I have a couple issues. The TC is leaking really bad, which I knew. So I intend to rebuild that. I know it can be done inside the vehicle, but I'm on no time constraint....what do you suggest for a first time DIYer? Seems I should pull the trans/Tc to make the actual rebuild process easier, though more time consuming.

Also, the truck seems to run fine, but if I'm running down the highway, and shift to neutral, the engine will die if I don't blip the throttle as it approaches idle speed . Seems strange

Hi, Make sure you keep the transfer filled , until you fix it. Try putting a couple cans of carb. Cleaner down the carb with someone in the cruiser on the throttle. Mike

Thanks Mike

Yessir I've kept on the level thus far. It's spraying all over from the drive shaft slinging oil but it's still on slightly below the full plug- just don't want to risk it

Thanks for the tip on the carb cleaner, I will give that a shot

Anyone know the best transfer case rebuild kit?

I've looked around and found plenty of various pricing, but not one is better than another as far as I can tell

Hey
I know Georg has good stuff. I bought both my kits from Cruiser Outfitters. No reason other than I was already getting a few other items from them. They are both really good to work with.
hey TXFJ.

I think I *might* have oil making it from the TC to the 4spd. Did the kit you purchase include the necessary seals to resolve that as well?

When you rebuilt your TC (twice I take it?) did you remove the whole thing or rebuild under the truck?

I'm nervous about all this because it'll be all new and I'm not sure if I'm qualified to perform the work

Nesquik, I completely understand your apprehension. I had it as well. I redid two different cases over the last year and things seem to have worked out just fine. And yes the kit has the necessary seal to keep the oil from passing between cases. The FSM and MUD were the reason I was able to accomplish this job. Oh...and you'll want a press (or access to one). I used this as a reason to grab a Harbor Freight one. I've needed one many times before and used it many more times sense :). Also, I did both of them off the vehicle. I was upgrading each rig to a 5-speed as well. Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll be glad to tell you my experience with it. Thanks, Jim

Thanks Jim. I'll get a press and order a kit and have a whack at it.

Did you clean/freshen up the case? How did you do it? I have access to a sand blaster and steam lances if need be.

I used my parts cleaner. thought about using the sand blaster but then it's a pain getting all the sand out of there. It gets in every nook and cranny. The key for me was patience, using the FSM and asking a lot of questions via MUD
Thanks for the tips Jim

I really appreciate it

About that engine dying unless you blip the throttle issue. It sounds like you've got vacuum leaks. Very common issue and a can-o-worms waiting to be opened. The intake manifold gasket is a likely culprit and the intake is connected to the carb and to the exhaust...which is connected to the egr plumbing. Been there. Done that. I feel your pain. Before you tear into it get a vacuum gauge. Hook it up and take a video of the needle on the gauge at idle. We can offer advice based on what we see.

As well as try an okie rebuild. When my intake was cracked my truck wouldn't stall at all when suffocated. It's a quick and easy trick to clear out built up sediment but also an easy diagnosis to intake or manifold leaks.
